You point an iphone, hit record, the end result can be played back in dolby vision given the playback device supports it. No need to be more technical than that in a sentence. Take a chill pill. You can't tell anyone what to do or should do. Sad individual.

What, 09 Nov 2020Are you saying Dolby Vision is an Asian gimmick? If so, ... moreTons of things were called gimmick, but then called "must have" after Samsung , Apple or any chinese appliedmon their phones.

Kara Murat, 08 Nov 2020lg g6 support dolby vision !!! not only iphone !!Yes, I am aware. I have used one. Which is why the article states that 'none of the Android smartphones on the market TODAY support this format'.

Abd, 08 Nov 2020G7, G8, V30, V40 and V50 phones from LG also support Dolby ... moreSorry, but I'm going to have to ask for an official source on that claim. I could find no evidence of any phone other than the G6 supporting Dolby Vision. Netflix also lists the G6 as the only Android phone in their Dolby Vision compatibility list. Even Dolby lists the G6 as the only Android phone on their website.

prasad-gsma, 08 Nov 2020A lot of TVs will get dimmer when displaying HDR content to... moreYes .. well explained . That's why I hate HDR sometimes. It doesn't account for people watching in brighter environment. With SDR .. you can just increase the brightness and be happy with it. Like you said , colorist should account for this and I have seen movies like wonderwoman , Aquaman in which APL is consistently good enough to watch it in bright rooms as well. In most HDR movies ..only certain highlights extend beyond 100 nits ... that too in smaller areas. IMO .. HDR hasn't matured yet. Another thing thats hurting HDR is the false advertising.. the before / after picture what manufacturers claim which is totally false. Disadvantage of dynamic HDR formats is inconsistent lighting in scenes . I.e Scenes which involves long shot and close ups . The difference in lighting hitting a person face looks inconsistent . Close up looks like a harsh light is hitting person's face and in long shot , it looks like soft light . Have noticed this both dv and hdr10+. With HDR 10..if you don't like dimmer look.you can adjust contrast and gamma to make it look good for the entire movie . But with dv and hdr10+ . That's no more the case.

                      Wow!

3VA, 08 Nov 2020The smaller the sensor the better the processing power. Tha... moreNo.

Apple plays with different shutter speeds to deal with exposure.
Reason night videosmhave so much motion blur.
Smaller sensor has nothing to do with more power. They are just faster to be read out.

Imx400 (xperia xz premium) is 1/2.3" and can do 4K@90, while imx557 (1ii/5ii) can do 4K@120.
Imx363 used by Google is not able of 4K@90 nor 4K@120.
Imx586 (48Mp quadbayer) cannot do as well.

CPU used by ipad pro can handle 120Hz screen.
Nobody knows if A14 is capable too.
120Hz would demand Apple to have at least 3200mAh for Mini, 4200 for 12/Pro and 4600 more Max to last decently.
Something Apple does not seem interested to invest money in ..

Deders, 08 Nov 2020I just want to ask, even though SDR content is limited to 1... moreA lot of TVs will get dimmer when displaying HDR content to prevent blowing out the highlights. They essentially reduce the average picture level by mapping the brightest bits of the content within their own brightness level. This can cause the content to look dimmer sometimes. This doesn't happen with SDR and you can basically increase the display brightness as much as you want to compensate for the ambient lighting. As mentioned in the article, this raises the entire picture level, including the shadows but the content itself is still mastered at 100 nits. The best way to compare SDR and HDR is to calibrate the displays to 100 nits for SDR and as high as it will go for HDR and then watch them in a dark room. If you still see a difference then it would mostly be down to how the colorists have graded the two versions.

I just want to ask, even though SDR content is limited to 100 nits, do TV's display the content in a brighter space?

E.g. I was watching Alita Battle Angel the other day and couldn't help but notice that the blu ray version was overall much brighter even though the 4K UHD version went up to 200 nits.

I can't help but feel that in some cases the 100 nits is misleading when it comes to the final presentation on the hardware, or maybe my experience is different to others?
