Practically all tech youtubers and sites won’t be talking harsh against google since google can deplatform them easily. Look at the Pixel 5 screen gap issue, hardly anybody criticize google after google said you’re looking at it wrong.

Android--Master, 12 Nov 2020Stop buying cheap external SD cards from fake companies.
I... moreMate, if you don't uses a band flash card in a year the data can start disappearing as the charge goes and it losses the levels of the data. Also, using it can produce corruption in parts not used. I've had multiple premium name brand do this, many times less reliable than hard disk. They also have grossly reduced write life. OR based products are better, but ussually not used in mobile. Nasty stuff. The datablife of 10 years seems like a fantasy now fur these cheap products, which is most cards.
What is needed is cards based on 3D xpoint, which has many times better characteristics, or the write once cards that police use for archival purposes. SanDisk wasn't it? You come along in less than a year to find a heap of photos corrupted. If I could even use the write once at a cheap price to keep photos backed up, as that is something like 40 or 100 years, as even hard disks fail.

Better than relying on other's opinions here, is if there was somebody with a one way local storage cloud product.
Works like this:
- No cloud delete at all, to stop hackers.
- Only registered devices can upload to it. If hacked all they can do is fill up drive and then you delete that.
- Devices can only be registered local to the drive at home in a secured place (physical security). Deleted only with local access. A physical keyed drive or even a safe with and disconnectable and potentially lockable external connection could be used.
- local access can be setup as a security key, wired or wireless.
- encrypted with encryption keys set up device to device by local access standard.
- cloud access sharing can be setup with local access or via specific registered devices or local or in field key use.
- options to violate these rules can setup locally. This allows it to operate like
And many such security features that isolate your data, data access and administration access.
My prime concern is to use such a thing as an emergency backup in field, and as a direct backup when home, in a Raid drive format. Next is to access Sone of that data in field, but only some. The least concern is to share bits of it. This is securely 100% without another party being involved in data access.
We con ourselves that generating keys observable over the internet is going be secure. People used to email them, where they can then be read in transit, or physically mail them, where they can be intercepted in transit. Walking up to a device plugging in and physically generating a random key in a key exchange mode to isolate and warn of hacking attempts of either device, is even more secure. These are every day real questions when you design stuff like this. How come the companies don't, are they really our friends?

Android--Master, 12 Nov 2020Stop buying cheap external SD cards from fake companies.
I... moreActually I just had a Samsung 32Gb microSD fail on me last week, after less than one year in use on an rPi, where I try to keep writes to a minimum. I've had 2 cards fail when they were only used in my DSLR. I've had two other microSD fail in embedded computers (Sandisk and Intenso). One SSD which failed (Crucial?) and two which are marginal (Samsung). 10-15% of the DVDs I wrote 15 years ago have failed (mostly Sony and Verbatim).
As much as it pains me to say, HDDs are the cheapest most reliable media we have. Not sure about tapes, since those are not affordable for consumers.

This is quite disappointing. Google has turned into a money-grubbing enterprise compared to what it used to stand for in the past.

Now Google is done getting free data set to work with. They start to monetize the Google photos platform.
Current system is good. Google gets free data set to work with. Customers get free storage and sharing.

I wish they would stop trying to hassle me and illegally upload in order to see my photos. If I make an album, it seems to be coded to randomly rearrange the document everytime I add a new photo/text and try to manually sort them. It then insists on force up loading the album, and many deficiencies which need photos to be scrapped. I want to other products, the story of android.
They have legal responsibility to ensure their products break no laws, or anything which can fail in a civil case. Under contract law, an part of a contract which is illegal is not supposed to be enforceable, and I would have thought this included attempts to get users to void prosecution of such things? The world is weak in not enforcing existing legal requirements in a choke hold on companies, as the law is designed to do. Instead, they are illegally compromised, giving special privileges and permissions based on wealth and power against the close to 100% of people who do not have that. We see such people using the courts to try to force common use cases and exemptions for new adverse behaviours.

GENZA, 11 Nov 2020The advantage of cloud storage is that you have a backup st... moreGood luck with encrypted files on cloud.
Physical storage means files are with you all the time.
How are you going to access the cloud in areas of no Internet coverage?
One can always keep a backup on cloud storage if necessary but it will never replace physical storage that can be with you at all times.
OTG works on iPhone but with proprietary cable.
It isn't as seamless as Android where even a cheap 1$ cable will get you OTG connectivity and it is a universal cable unlike that on iPhone, where if you don't have standard OTG, you are left begging for that particular cable.
