A user having a new google account for up to 15 GB is totally too less for the user. If the person owns a 512GB storage phone, but has free 15GB in the google account, its completely useless. Might as well for every new that have been created, give at least like 32GB, 64GB or 128GB if google themselves are kind to us.
Fir the subscription the the user pays up for more storage, its still useless because user would be lazy to pay up their monthly or yearly subscription. Might as well ditch the subscription plan away. Just pay up the amount of storage that you want without paying up for monthly/ yearly payment.

Just go the math. 15GB / person is still free. For 1000 people it is 15TB, for 1 million people it is 15XB (I am sure most people don't even know that unit this is). Just check how much it costs to host something like this. Google has been very generous and benevolent in improving people's lifestyles. 15GB is about 5,000 to 15,000 4x6 prints at 300 DPI based on the format you store the file thats years' worth of photos even if you take 10 / day. Remember taking your roll to Walgreens? Be happy and thankful Google that Google is still offering so much for free.

They needed huge amount of photos and videos to improve their AI and they launched Google Photos... Voila! Now you have billions of photos and unrestricted access to them (because we accepted their sh##ty t&c)
Now, when they've used our photos for years to improve 'their' algorithms and services, and don't need them anymore, just stop offering the free storage!
That's absolutely evil!

Well that settles 64GB capacity as insufficient even for entry level phones since videos can fill up the space pretty quickly specially in 4K. To those who likes to take lots of photos and video, i recommend to buy a portable SSD drive to storage your media.

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2020Buy an external storage specific for photos. And print the best. External SD Cards are the worst medium you can store you personal files on. They corrupt so often and they tend to have frequent dataloss. it is a dangerous game.
I decided to store my always-avaliable music albums on an SD Card. After a few months, they had dataloss. Many other times i stored files on it, they got corrupted no matter what phone it is.
SD cards are trash and are too prone to go bad. I hope they discontinue any support from them. Phone storage torday are sufficient that they arent needed anymore anyway. They should rather (give users the choice to) partition a flash storage instead.

That's really disappointing news.
I loved uploading all my photos to Google Photos and then have it available to view anytime (as opposed to connecting a hard drive whenever I wanted to view them)
I guess now is a good time to upload as much as you can before that date.

Domestoboto, 12 Nov 2020Good luck when that card goes bad.
Also, even the fasted... moreExternal storage is supposed to be for storage only.
Your phone continues to run via internal storage.
And faster micro SD cards are available, they just cost more.
Cards going bad is a rarity since most of them have good warranty and are shock proof, waterproof, etc.

Anders, 12 Nov 2020Yet another reason why phones having micro SD support is do... moreGood luck when that card goes bad.
Also, even the fasted microSD card out there has a FRACTION of the speeds of UFS 3.0 internal storage; slower storage speeds bog the phone down massively. And lest we forget, Android still has an unresolved issue of microSD cards causing and worsening battery drain on phones (https://www.reddit.com/r/lgv20/comments/97juen/your_sd_card_might_be_the_cause_of_your_battery/)...

Nick, 11 Nov 2020lol. I meant expandable storage. A big NO to on-board 128gb... moreThere are quite a few dual sim smartphones outside Asia, my OnePlus 6t is the global variant and is dual Sim, in fact most Flagship are :
https://www.kimovil.com/fr/comparatif-smartphone/f_min_d+sim2Size
But usually smartphones have :
*1 Sim + 1 SD
*Or hybrid being either 2 Sim or 1 Sim and 1 SD,
*And some have 2 Sim + 1 independent SD.
For exemple, those have :
https://www.kimovil.com/fr/comparatif-smartphone/nf_storage-external-storage-in-sim-card-tray,fe_storage-external-storage,f_min_d+sim2Size
And like a 3.5mm Jack and NFC, it should be mandatory except if the phone physically can't have it.
