Luckily for me because i have uninstalled Google Photos, default app like Gallery on my phone is an alternative and it is already enough to store some photos, the gallery on my phone has cloud storage and it's probably better than Google Photos.

AnonD-909757, 11 Nov 2020I think you meant "Dual Sim + Independent MicroSD Card... morelol. I meant expandable storage. A big NO to on-board 128gb limited storage offered by Google pixel devices. What you've mentioned is another interesting topic. I see dual sim smartphones launched in Asian markets, but not in EU or US. I see why not?

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2020Time to upload my photosit would be better if you download your data rather uploading to the cloud. Google literally want customers to pay for their Google One subscription and they have complete access to these data. One would simply think it was free all this time and why would one pay now? Because there is nothing free. You've been the product, if a service you think availed is free. The terms and conditions for google cloud storage makes them immune from the public lawsuits.

Nick, 11 Nov 2020or buy a Samsung galaxy device or any other android device ... moreI think you meant "Dual Sim + Independent MicroSD Card Slot".
Dual Sim is more relevant than ever to use, and there are tons of reasons to have MicroSD Card slot, from transferring, backup, additional storage, special use, etc, to hell the brands that don't support 2+ SIM + MicroSD Card, that would be like a computer with only 2 USB ports but you have to use one to charge it.

The day I backed up all media from this app it was a total disaster. Took about six hours to complete, only to find my external storage disk getting cyclic redundancy check oof one day after the backup was done, causing the disk to become completely unusable unless I do full format.

That's why we really need European and Japanese alternatives to Google (all services, a good search engine, Smartphone OS and all that).

Not another US one because of the Patriot Act and the natural tendency of capitalism land to do anti-consumer stuff and spy on users.
Not Korean as South Korea is basically a US proxy and they do the exact same bad thing (Samsung is the best exemple).
Not Chinese nor Russian as their governments have to much tendencies to get involved in things they shouldn't.

European would both be good because of regulations preventing it to make bad stuff, but it would also be so limited because of that, and Japanese, well Sony and Nintendo aren't exemplary though they are better than the other in term of privacy and consumer respect.

Though the BEST option would be open sourced, free for all, legally located in Iceland which is the least likely to cause issues about copyright.
The best of the best would be that the source code of ALL apps is available, and that this is exactly how the community can make FOR their owners apps on this platform that would only need to check the source code, take ownership and maintain it, that would quickly compensate the issue of starting with a blank app store.

But regardless, we REALLY need a big and good alternative to Google (and other US companies in general).

Android--Master, 11 Nov 2020USB OTG is still there. Seamless plug and play for Android... moreThe advantage of cloud storage is that you have a backup storage facility which will be very helpful when your physical storage is lost or damaged that is why i upload my personal files on cloud storage but i always encrypt the files before i upload them just to be safe.

You can also use OTG flash drives with lightning connector for an iPhone for example you can get iXpand series flash drives from sandisk at relatively afforable prices.

Instead they are trying real hard to promote Google One. The cloud storage is not safe. I like the clean interface of Google, but their storage capped at 128gb prevents me from buying a pixel device.

The very first reason I'm not buying their Google pixel 5. No expandable storage and you get only 128GB on board. You would probably get about 110 GB of free space after the used OS space and with all future upgrades sized up to 4-5 GB will swallow the rest of the storage. These are times where creators take 4K videos and the storage will be out in no time. Second they cut corners by taking out the visual core engine. Google and Apple are those companies that never take opinions from their customers. Google promoting cloud storage is their monopoly to promote Google one. lol.. I don't trust cloud and would never use that. These companies are immune to law suits. Try harder Google !

Better to stay away from Google Photos and other Google bloatware.
Not only are they misusing your data, they are also charging you for the same.... SMH!

                              Does that include HEIC?

Seamless plug and play for Android devices.
For iOS, one needs a special accessory which costs a lot more.
I can use any standard cheap OTG cable and connect whatever I want.
Another reason how Android simply works without having to carry proprietary hardware everywhere.
