There will be five Snapdragon 875-powered flagships in Q1 with 100W charging, says leakster

20 November 2020
The S875 chip will support Qualcomm's latest Quick Charge 5, which promises 50% charge in 5 minutes.

Two key things here :
First thing :
Fast charge can be wishable but shouldn't be mandatory AND there is a "too fast" limit.
There should be mandatory multiple options and features that come with fast charge, for exemple :
*When charging overnight (many peoples still do) a feature like some phones does, where it slow charge up to what we call "storage charge" meant for long time without using the phone, they slowly charge the phone up to to alarm clock or the typical "first use after a long time untouch" typical period.

*The user should choose if by default the phone should charge at normal USB speed or at fast charge speed, in both case with a toggle button that will work for the current charge then revert to user preference.

*Possibility to have a "storage charge" option that will put the battery at the ideal percentage and shut down the phone.

*Possibility to set health managing battery limit, where the default minimum (when the low battery alarm start) and default maximum (stop charging past this point) are the best for managing battery health but are still user tuneable.

*Possibility to enable "power through cable" where rather than charging you just use USB to power the device, because as incredible as it is, many phones nowaday still stress the battery when it is at 100% and we use the phone plugged.

I know, I know, most peoples change their phone in an average of 3 years, here the goal isn't to make the battery last for millennia, but rather still have a good battery capacity when the phone is old, because even though the battery can still be usable for some other years, it will only be a fraction of its initial capacity at this point, and funnily enough, this is one of the reason (along with the phone becoming laggy, which is why I aim for flagship that have enough spare power to avoid that issue) peoples change their phone in 3 years and don't keep them longer.

The second thing is:
Sadly, all those devices, as good as they could be, will be plagued by the typical things we have now :
*Lack of 3.5mm Jack for too many of them despite the vast majority of users clearly stating they want it.

*Lack of front camera diversity, with almost all that will choose punch hole, some might try underdisplay camera if they are confident they can mass product an acceptable one, few might choose the notch, but except gaming smartphones none will choose bezel, the pop up will become increasingly rare, the flip up will stay an Asus thing, second display on the back is basically dead, none will come with no front camera in general, slider phones are also dead...

*Most won't have a MicroSD card slot, and for the few who have, almost/probably none will have independent slot + dual SIM.

*Too many phones will be plagued by the curved edge/waterfall displays, I am not saying to not make it anymore, but just make less, so many peoples hate those, why are you making half high end phones with that thing ?

*No thickness diversity, fan of extremely thin smartphones who are ready to accept small battery and no 3.5mm Jack as a sacrifice still won't have a phone like the Oppo R5 who was 4.9mm slim, and on the other side, those who find sub 10mm phones too thin, or who wouldn't care about thickness and weight as long as the phone have a big battery capacity, no excuses to remove the 3.5mm Jack and no other compromises like no NFC or wireless charging or bad cooling etc.

*Still poor camera choice with :
**Ultra-Wide under 12Mp (12Mp being the industry standard, and Ultra-Wide, because of the big field of view, have less pixels per degrees, so if anything, you want your Ultra-Wide to be 12Mp minimum, 16Mp or even 19Mp all post pixel binning, would be ideal).
**Lack of periscope Telephoto on expensive phones while it is a no brainer to offer in 2021 a telephoto with AT LEAST 5x optical zoom.
**1000 Bazillion Mp over a good sensor, like Samsung Bright S5KHM1 vs Sony IMX689, the latter being amazing despite having some "first of its kind" on the autofocus part.
**Stupid low resolution of 2 or 5Mp for dedicated (real) Portrait or Macro despite a good 12Mp sensor costing pocket change more, there are lot of phones with good 12Mp camera that are really cheap on spare parts websites, and those need to make their profits, so there is a margin.
**Ultra-Wide and Macro combo when the Telephoto and Macro combo make way more senses.
**Depth sensor that are made for industrial application, meaning high range precision but low resolution.

If only they could aim for diversity rather than always choosing the exact same features over and over until one big brand introduce a new thing that will once again spread to almost all phones killing other alternatives...

Do not compare costs of chinese to non-chinese.
Chinese phones are always cheaper to make.
Full of chinese pieces that do cost less also do not pay import taxes because many suppliers are from same province as the phones brands.

It is easier to break your phone in other ways, than it is for the battery to be broken. And those people who change their phones 3-5 years are not interested anyway in new technology or new things in phones. So, this kind of news are not for them anyway.
I change my phones usually each 3-6 months, just because something new comes to market at good prices and I want to try them out. My latest phone is a Realme 6. I bought this phone with 180EUR new, just because I wanted to see 90Hz screen and 30W charger. And it was the cheapest phone that had this. In 2019 I bought with the exact amount of money a Samsung A20e, a phone far inferior in every category. So phones are improving, technology is improving and the best part, you can get better things with the same money.
PS: I had also a Xiaomi and an iphone in this period, so yeah..

My mother barely used her phone at the point it needed charge just 3x per week.
Yearly loss was about 150 mAh, using 5W. Samsung phone.

Honestly worth it😂 If I get my battery 50 percent in 5 percentage (though pretty sure if you want slow charging you can buy an adapter 😝) but to be quite frank I am prepared to buy a battery for my phone after 2.5 years (some phones have it cheaper and some have it expensive)

My ipad with 12W goes 50% in 2h.
            Battery is almost 9000mAh.

Some brands use software tools to slow down after 50%.
Reason why 0-50% is 30 min , then 50-100% in more than 1h.

Good luck having 5000mAh turning into 4000 in less than 12 months.

The battery cells also have lower charging cycles before it starts degradation.

Unit B is using batteries which are specially designed to handle higher amounts of charging power. It is using latest tech which produces same amount or lower heat than 10W charger.
                          The charging tech matters.

Sony jokers like you will appreciate ultra fast charging when they get it on their phones.
Till then keep spreading propaganda since the grapes are sour for you.

I want Samsung to make a chip similar to the Apple M1 in performance, specifically made for mini PCs, laptops and extra large tablets (12-18inches).
Hint: X1+A78+Afterburner+Graphics Card Overload+RAM embedded deep. It could easily beat the laptop i7s, especially for photo and videoe editing.

No use of using 100w fast charging. They will just divide the battery in say like 5cells so each cell will get 20w power so technically it will help in charging the battery superfast. But what about improvement in battery their is very less development in this sector after many years samsung had invented graphin battery.U can see only fast chargers out their saying well i will charge your battery in 40min thats all

During 1 year, unit A is going to be charged by 10W charger while unit B with 100W charger.
After 1 year, you measure the battery loss. It is obvious that unit B will have lower remaining capacity than A. Not small difference.
