Motorola "Nio" incoming with a 105Hz display, Snapdragon 865 chipset

25 November 2020
105Hz is the strangest refresh rate we've seen yet, but this could be just an overclocked 90 Hz display.

The big question, is it going to be available in the United States? It's been so long since Motorola has released a decent, affordable, true upgrade phone that I would not be surprised if they make it available everywhere else but the US.

AnonD-955101, 27 Nov 2020Bro stop calling it functional. Oh, I just get it...OMG dude, are you for real ?

I wrote FICTIONAL, as it is a fiction, because it only exist "on the paper" (as a 3D model and screenshots of it) and not in reality.
I used to only say "concept phones" but some started to think I made a real physical model of the phone, so I state now it is "fictional concept phone" to avoid any misunderstanding.

So except for trying to argue with me as you usually love to try and get me wrong, what's the point of this comment ?
Even if I called it functional, why would it be an issue ?
Mainly considering that one of the specificity of this phone is to have its own separate 2G (calls and text) and VOLTE dedicated chip for the purpose of avoiding any OS issue interfering with the main function of the phone being to make calls.

See, that's your issue with the beginning, you can't get anything I say, it isn't me writing weird sentences or anything, it is you, not even being able to read a single word right and yet criticizing me for that.

At least some kind of creativity comming out of this phone instead of china made apple which is likely same where every single component apart the LOGO and OS is from many different companies. Only that LOGO and OS belongs to Apple. Rest is likely bought device from Foxconn.

There are many true 2D display Android smartphones.

The idea is to have basically 3 flat display (main, left and right), from the outside it would look like on curved display as despite there are 3 separate display the glass and the tactile that cover them it will be a single piece.
But the edges of the main display's glass would have a "sharp" 90° angle Sony Style like the old XA1 or Z1, so it look like a curved edge display as it give off the "never ending edge" effect, but it wouldn't warp the content as the parts where the image are displayed are flat.
The sides aren't part of the main display but basically serve as virtual buttons so they take the while thickness of the phone and they also add many shortcut features and using pressure sensitive it will be quite good at rejecting accidental touch, mainly if the user can set the sensitivity and/or work with a simple learning AI to adapt the sensitivity.

I already had a while ago the idea of displays on the sides :

As it is a logical evolution to ditch the buttons for tactiles (display or not) sides, in my fictional concept phone though, there are still physical buttons underneath the side displays, they are click-through, if you press hard enough (barely more than a regular physical button though) you click them, so in case of issue you still can operate your phone.

So are you suggesting to switch the design to the 12 series THEN put screens on the side(to not interfere with the main screen)?

Or do you want to simply seperate the curved area from the flat area?

If it's the latter, I feel like there would be the same issues, as a 2.5d curved design would still warp content if it was carried to the edges. If it isn't, then you are essentially wasting space on the sides.

I think the former idea is pretty good though.

That's why samsung displays are more "poppy" and iPhone displays natural looking.

The green tint is a manufacturing issue of course, but not the overall look of the display.

Apple, Huawei, Samsung also had this problem.
In case of Huawei, they said, it was caused by using too much sealer or glue during the assembly process.

If it was a screen issue, it would have happened to all units.
This is is why only some batches of these phones have the issue.
