Microsoft delayed production of the Xbox Series X and S consoles to get the full RDNA 2 feature set

25 November 2020
Sony started production earlier and so the PlayStation 5 missed out on a few features of AMD's latest architecture.

I'm just loving the idea that everyone are overlooking that fact that the PS5 memory module rises to critical temperatures as many PS5 owners (we were one of unfortunate ones too, we took that mess PS5 back fast for a full refund) has reported over and over.

But it seems many tech blogs are (especially shilled Digital Foundry, isn't that what DF supposed to do best) not reporting these serious issues.

The Xbox has been readily available and people don’t want it because they can get a better experience on PC. Sony makes sense because they have a long list of exclusives. By the time that feature is fully taken advantage of like how HDR was hard to find, we’ll find ourselves with a PS5 Pro or just a PS6.

Digital Foundry and Gaming Nexus have confirmed that.

Tough it may be due to difficulty to optimize for XboxSx coupled with the fact with Xbox have 2 different hardware. But PS5 seems to be easier to develop.

Early dev for XboxSX have stated difficulty to feed that 12 TERAFLOPS properly thanks to less efficient IO and Geometry Engine is barely used as the dev need time to familiarized with the new tech.

They have other speculation on the why, but this may change for both consoles as time goes and dev have more familiarity with the hardware.

Pretty sure Sony just build their version Variable Rate Shading.
There is a patent released right after RDNA2 revealing.

And some third party activition dev points out that Geometry Engine requires VRS by default.
And Moore's is dead talk to the hardware dev which baffled with PS5 didn't have VRS claims. per their statement, its baked in the hardware by default.

I *DID* however, find a lot of material that says the PS5 has a higher failure rate than the Series X. Funny how issues of the PS5 that have been talked about by respectable youtubers AND backed up by videos on twitter are completely ignored but when a literal nobody on twitter makes a fake video of the Series X smoking by blowing vape into it gets all the media coverage. This console war is pathetic. You guys are pathetic.

Its just that we didnt get the dev tools in time and there has been few other bugs that has created perf problems. We expect things to change a lot in Q1/2021.

Btw. Both are great consoles. Ps5 has nicer controller, but eventually Xbox will be more powerful!

                Play5: 8 cores 3.5 Ghz / GPU 36 CUs "up to" 2.23 GHz
                Xbox X: 8 cores 3.8 Ghz / GPU 52 CUs 1.83 GHz

It doesn't look like it for the S
The comparisons from Digital Foundry of the same game on X and S have shown several differences between them, with the biggest ones being higher framerate and no RT even when MS promised the same experience on it but at a lower resolution.

S hardware looks good on paper, but this first batch of games says the contrary.

Where does 'Sony confirmed that PS5 doesn't have VRS'? Aren't you opening yourself to legal trouble claiming made-up stuff like that? If this gets picked up by larger more gaming-focused media, you can bet your ass Sony will be on your ass.

smart on Microsoft's part. caring about the customer experience. Shame Sony did not do the same.

As most reviewers liked the ps5 more than the new xbox especially the new controller, Microsoft now is in trouble and will try to add more features in its consoles that are not available in the ps 5.
