What's the reason for doing so? Hatred for china? Even banning chinese apps. Many people have hatred for china and its company/people. I don't know why. Maybe because of their government spying? No way. They just don't want china to compete, because china technology these days are very good quality

Apple already making iphone 11 in indian factory soon they will start making newer iphone 12 model too.
Oneplus and Xiaomi also have factories in india too.
In short term it's bad for business but in long term it provides jobs in india.
Google, microsoft and Facebook already invested billions in jio this year.
Pubg also shifting server from china to india.

The average metal smartphone components does not sum up to be more than 400 dollars. Plastic phones are even cheaper to make.
