It also p... moreI have seen incredibly dusty computers, true there were overheating, but honestly not by much, and I never heard of any phone damaged in any way by dust.
And a phone can resist to dust without being IP rated, the rating isn't even a guarantee as many IP67 and IP68 rated phones still get damaged or destroyed by water, there is a huge number of reports of that, and many (including a big bunch related to Apple) had trouble trying to get the brand repairing their phone.

Duat in there can cause overheating.

Well, as someone already mentioned, no manufacturer covers their phone against water damage. IP rating is just something nice to have but doesn't mean it will work 100%. Remember, no manufacturer dares to claim that 100% of their phones have no issues when it leaves the factory. The same logic goes for the sealing. You won't know if your sealing works properly.
At least in my country, Apple is not aggressively promoting IP rating. All I see in the advertisements shown here only indicate splash resistant. It could also be because I study Engineering that I know the difference of "proof" and "resistance".

Sounds logical. Why put a disclaimer that liquid contamination aren't covered by warranty but the device is advertised and sold as a water resistant device?? Looks misleading.

Same goes to you fella.
If pop up are rare it is because peoples who don't intent to buy them still complain they prevent water resistance rather than just not buy it, and move on.
Not everyone need ware resistance or want a front facing camera.
But if because the majority aren't happy to already have almost all phones with want they want but also try to kill other alternatives it is a problem.
Just don't interfere with a fight many would benefit from in every occasions.
You want phone with a 16:9 ratio display, but if you were not that stubborn and actually helped fight for diversity rather opposing it and if this behavior was more common, you would have more options to choose from.
What a great way to support diversity by constantly arguing with someone that already explained to you many time that it isn't about what he want or need but about aggressively popular and unjustified features require equally strong reaction otherwise it is basically useless to try to oppose them, but trying to make you learn is a really useless thing.
So much frustration and hate toward one person that you can't just wave off but have to take every single occasions to try and argue even when proven wrong many times (every times), it's unbelievable.

Bottom line, keep your phone out of the water. It's like an extra protection if you drop it accidently in the water but a lot of people are doing it intentionally, swimming with it etc
It's water resistant, different from water *proof* haha but yeah most people don't understand that and Apple (and others) should explain that clearly to their customers.

Most peopole are ok with water resistance and are not afraid having a ffc.if you dont agree with what the majority of peopole want than that is your problem.
Just dont bring a fight nobody asked for in every comment section.

IP ratings are just a gimmick at the end.
I think brands should just stop promoting IP ratings, only splash resistance is enough.
I still expect Samsung to be fined with Exynos throttling, Xiaomi for optical fingerprint sensor debacle.
Italy and France favors Xiaomi too much and not Samsung or Huawei so I wonder if Xiaomi colludes with those two countries to wipe out the competition.

Somebody also should fine poco for those unprofessional smoot af advertisements,or sony for those advertisements with spilled water all over the phone, or xiaomi and lenovo for those fake slim bezzels.Not only apple but every oem should be teached a lesson.

Thinking about all those peoples b*tching about pop up preventing IP rating, sure, look how great it is !
Get over it peoples, IP rating is near useless, the best water resistance is self discipline, I don't even understand how it is possible to accidentally drop a phone in water to begin with, let alone to do it in a way that will damage or destroy the device, except voluntarily throwing it away on a pool for fun maybe ?
A phone with a pop up is still more safe over water than a phone with IP rating, because phones with IP rating make peoples having dangerous behaviors, like washing them with water or using them in the shower.
Meanwhile phones with pop up are still good enough to resist an accident and on top of that force more careful behavior, which at equivalent number of unit sold result in more IP rated phones damaged or bricked by water than phones with pop up.
Yet this stupid claim is one of those fantasy, totally opposite to reality myth that killed the pop up.
Sure, your IP rated phone may have survived years of underwater use, but all it take is a single additional bend on your pocket, one single too agressive salt or chlorine drop near an exposed joint, one single last tiny drop that make the speaker grill a weakpoint, and your phone is dead.
It's like saying you stand under a storm with an iron stick on your hand for years and never have been struck by lightning, yeah, go ahead as if it will never happen...
IP rating is NOT designed for devices such as smartphones and until a brand cover water damage, there is no reasons to consider it safe, and it should NEVER EVER be considered as a good excuse to prevent a feature to get implemented.
Also, if you don't want a phone that, as you think is fragile against water, just don't buy it, but don't complain that what is less than 1% of available devices have X or Y issues, just choose among the 99% left and don't make it harder for those who want one.

I despise Apple but this isn't fair on them tbh . Water damage isn't covered under any OEMs warranty. Doesn't matter if it's Samsung, Oppo Xiaomi or Apple. People think it's water resistant but don't realise it's upto 1.5 metres or upto 30 minutes . There's definitely someone out there who took their brand new iPhone 12 pro max 256GB out in the sea and then act surprised when it wouldn't turn on
