Well, it depends on the dust and humidity of the area where a 'dusty' computer is. I've seen my share of ruined pcs due to dust in off-city offices in harsh environments.
In phones it is more difficult that dust makes any damage. Circumstances that make the phone fail due dust are likely those that drive the warranty void.

Instead of using those 2 dots on the side to recharge the phone, ppl used usb only.
Opening the flap everyday just made it weak.
Problem solved when first capless IP68 phone (M4) came out.

It is definitely misleading if they don’t cover it under warranty for liquid damages. It can’t be brushed aside it as general business practice across. People made it think that water damages won’t happen and I when it happens the manufacturer fixes the problem under warranty....if it is just making the claim and only charging super premium, then it is definitely misleading. It should apply for all manufacturers.

That's not the problem. The problem is some pretty idiotic consumers are confusing waterproofing with water resistance. Phones have microphones, Ports for headphones, charging, speaker grills and such. It's impossible to make them waterproof. This is a dumb fine. This is just opportunists. Apple rightly have been fined for tax evasion, battery gate and other such scandals. On this however, they have done nothing wrong. They advertised water resistance. That doesn't mean people can go deep sea diving with it.

Don't know about anyone else but I used to have s8+ and I took a lot of underwater videos always within the mentioned limit (1.5m depth or 30 mins or whatever rating) and I also did the same thing with my Note 20 Ultra but didn't face any issue until now. But my friend bought a new iPone 11 pro max and the first time he used it under water there was no issue, but the 2nd time he used (again well under the water resistance ratings) the face ID stopped working, the next day touch stopped working. If you use the phone well under the specified ratings, then there shouldn't be any chance of water entering into your phone in the first place. Its as simple as that!
My point is when they advertise about the rating, they should be confident about it. It's not a single mans word, it's the word of a big multi million dollar company. They should absolutely be held responsible.

Last year they showed a guy placing it on the sink and water spilling on it, then a large cola cup spilling on top of it. Then they had an ad showing the phone under pressurised sprinklers in the lab. This year there was a guy using the phone in the tub. This images mislead the average consumers. No other brand does that - it's one thing to print the rating on the box with a clear disclaimer that water damage is not covered by the warranty like other manufactuerers do and completely different to show video ads with the phone being subjected to all kinds of different scenarios involving water.

Not a big apple fan. In fact, I can't stand the company really but this is nonsense. They claim that the phone is water resistant and not waterproof. If a video that disproves the claims of water resistance is produced, that's fine but sorry if you're phone is not working and it has liquid in it, you're a moron and you are to blame not the manufacturers.

That's a dumb fine. No phone vendor covers water damage on any phones even those that have certified resistance ratings. At least I never heard of any that would. IP ratings are more of a guideline on what you can expect from it against water or dust if it happens, but isn't a guarantee as even water resistance IP ratings have conditions like depth and time. How is repair center going to know if phone was really submerged for only a minute at 1m depth and not 20m for 8 hours? I haven't seen Italian commercials, but I very much doubt they advertise it as "You can dive with your phone and we'll fix it all if it gets damaged by water". That would make sense to get a fine for if they then refuse to fix it, but I'm pretty confident it's not what they were advertising...

Many accidents... moreAnd salt, and any other contaminants found in water that can in the long run damage the phone.
And wear from bending the phone in the pocket, and from vibration, and chocks, and from temperatures changes.
All those give more and more chances for a leak to occur, and then salt or not, all the elements that make natural water conductive and the oxydation/corrosion become the issue.
Salt and chlorine in water are only issues when the phone is repeatedly or for a first but long time exposed to water, any brand new phone if it doesn't have a defect should survive sea or pool water for the first time, but IP rating isn't a repeatable test and the phones aren't build for enduring more.

All apple ads regarding the iphone cameras are made with professional equipment while misleading people that you can actually do that using a handheld iphone.
