Reuters also confirms Samsung about to discontinue the Galaxy Note line

02 December 2020
The Galaxy S21 Ultra and Samsung's next foldable are said to come with S Pen support instead.

Interesting decision, from one point of view removing the Note line altogether may seem a logical step for the company but putting millions of customer noses out of joint who have stuck with the Note series for years isn't a very good idea, at least thats how I see it, especially if those note users want the S-pen silo into the handset, not to mention if this is samsungs coup to try pushing people to an even more expensive device, I.e, the Fold-Line i don't see that paying off, Samsung could have simply stuck with one reasonably priced Note-handset each year thus going back to the traditional release pre-Note 10 era.

Surely if your considering the Note then the S-pen must surely be on your check list?

Are Samsung hoping people forget about the S-Pen if its not available within a note device?

If that approach was to be successful then surely whats the future demand for foldable, even if the are brought down to the price of the current Note 20 Ultra? Is there to be demand for this new folding thing?

Initially the note series was ahead of the s series in many aspects but since the note 9 there hasn't been any difference between the note series and the s series. It is a good decision to add the s pen to the s series and discontinue the note series as there is no much difference between the two.

YUKI93, 02 Dec 2020You may want to keep an eye on the S21 Ultra. That particul... moreTrue, but there are rumors that the S21 won’t have a silo to store the stylus in, and I like the overall design of the Note series much better. So the Note8 might be the last Note for me.

I also think wirh a headphone jack and a flat display the Note Series would still be alive... (fm-radio and dedicated sd-card slot would also be nice...) The current notes feel more like a downgrade in these aspects coming from an A70

Unless the S Pen is integrated into the fold, it's simply a crazy idea to discontinue the Note series. How on earth do they think it's practical to carry the S Pen separately. I think they need to fire the current head of mobile division and bring DJ Khao back.

Note 5 already was rendundant. It was basically the s6 with pen. I remember calling g the death of the Note line from back then even. No serious differentiating factor, just add pen support to the s series and be done with it... and Samsung did just that.

Bye, bye Note series. You were already killed 5 years ago...

so they're actually discontinuing the S line and acknowledging that Note has always been their flagship line worthy of the S title.

NeverSm1le, 02 Dec 2020This move is expected, after all from the S7 series onwards... moreThey will release 2 Fold models. If not in 2021, in 2022 for sure.
The top tier Fold model (around 2000$, with S pen support) and maybe some Fold FE (around 1500$, without S pen support, at least at the beginning).

Then there will be some S Ultra with S pen support (around 1200$), S+, S (this last 2 without S pen support).

They shoudl undo fold and flipm series for S and Note sories favor instead.

AnonD-923722, 02 Dec 2020Stupid decision. It is better to remove the S Series enitre... moreI think is the normal decision from Samsung. The Note series have always been viewed like the top tier model from Samsung. Now that the Fold is here, the Note became obsolete.
The S series was not like this from the beginning. It was more mid-range than flagship. Only in the recent years Samsung have inflated this series. Up until the Fold, it was ok to go on like that (I mean Note and S series).
So, the idea of Samsung remains the same, just the players change a little bit.

If Samsung will have kept the Note series instead of the S series, would had to make them less appealing than Fold series, so the Note image would have been lost. And it would have been even worse. Because in this way they would have lost both series (the S and the Note).

AnonD-923722, 02 Dec 2020Stupid decision. It is better to remove the S Series enitre... moreThey cannot remove the S series because of the brand's name:

                          S - series (Flagships)
                          A - series (Midrangers)
                          M - series (Budget phones)
                          S
                          U
                          N
                          G

If you replace the S series with the Notes it will become:

                          N - Notes (Flagships)
                          A - series (Midrangers)

I won't be surprised if they did. I remember when the Note release of the year was the more innovative one, with cool, sometimes niche, features. I remember when it was designed to be a phone mainly for productivity, exploring a lot of S Pen features. However, in the past releases, the Note simply became the S Series phone with an S Pen. Not much difference, not much innovation, not a lot of focus on productivity. As a Note user, i have loved the S Pen. If they do discontinue the Note series, atleast the legacy of the S Pen should continue.

the only thing special about samsung is the note series. regret getting s10 lite instead of oneplus 7/7T. my forst android phone and full of crap, annoying stuff that cant be removed unless you literally hack your phone and demands data in every step. just look up the most "premium" android phone AD instertion that cant be disabled. honestly makes chinese crap like top tier in ocmaprison

                                      Good riddance!

This only proves that Samsung's so-called great quarterly phone sales were BS!

You don't kill off a product that's "selling better than expected" BS.

For what?! To replace the Note with a worse overhyped perdormer the Fold/Flip series?!

                                      Bahahaha!

Someone is in panic mode and is throwing anything / EVERYTHING it has and see what sticks.

                                      Embarrassing!

                                      What now, Sammy's fanatics?!

                                      Bahahaha!

This makes business sense. Two launches for similar phones are costly.
They should just launch Galaxy S## with an optional pen.
