OnePlus reveals when the OnePlus Nord and the 8-series will stop receiving security patches

The Nord is getting the full three years of support, unlike the Nord N10 and N100. There's no word on the older models.

      This, is one of the many reasons why I consider OnePlus to be one of the Android Smartphone brands to avoid, they do an amazingly big number of anti consumer things since the OnePlus 8 series.
      Alongside Samsung and Google for the Android side, OnePlus is to avoid, but they only recently turned like that, or at least at that scale/level, during their 7 series there were still good and only rarely did anti-consumer things, now it seem it is their new signature.

      Keep in mind we don't talk about bug patches or new Android feature or next Android OS version here, we talk about security patches !
      This is a totally different things, some security weaknesses can be found years latter, this is why stopping security updates is a big deal.

      Not upgrading to new features or to the latest Android version to push users to go to a newer phone is okay-ish, stopping the bug update is already quite bad except for really old phones (and I talk about OnePlus 2 level of old, around 5 years, not OnePlus 6 or 7), but security updates is clearly no something you should mess around !
      Plus, I don't know the Android OS kernel, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is more a matter of passing along patches from the main Google's Android to the manufacturer's custom version than to have to make a huge work on it.

        The updates on iPhone are pure comedy in terms of features and functionality. Outdated at best.

          I personally don't care about updates till 2023 as I'd be selling my OP8 pro before that.

          Great thing about the OnePlus 8 series is the developer community support over at XDA.
          Those guys will make sure this device gets support uptil 2025 and beyond.

                  That's so hard to swallow, though. Think about it.

                  $600-$2500+ devices losses OS updates after one year (a big MAYBE in 2 years, still ridiculous the same) but its biggest rival devices with weaker specs gets 5-years of OS SUPPORT AND PASS 5-YEARS SERCURITY SUPPORT and its a greater chance the iPhone 10 and up will receive pass 5-years OS support due to those devices have much more powerful hardware, RAM, etc.

                  Google is even worse than its partners, though, and Google really needs to change it management fast before it losses even further to its biggest rivals. Google devices can't even compete with Realme, Redmi, OPPO andvother generic devices.

                      So the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro which are released this year, are on quarterly updates, while my Note8 released in 2017 was still getting monthly updates up till last month, and is only now on quarterly updates. So Samsung isn't doing all that bad after all, especially now they give 3 major OS updates to their flagships.

                        I bet I know who is laughing their selves sick at news like this in Cupertino.

                        Hell, we are laughing at the droids too.

Galaxy S7 got 2 Android updat... moreFrom last years (2019) flagship phones Samsung S10 (Lite,+), Note 10 (Lite,+)... series, this years mid range Galaxy A51 (and higher) all will get 3 years of major Android updates and 4 years of security updates.
                          Don't compare it with older Samsung phones that these. They have changed their update policy last August.

                            Buy an iPhone if you want to keep your phone for 5 years and get updates.

                            After 2 years the phone's design and cameras are outdated, so I'm not into having 5 years old phones, like would you be happy with a Galaxy S6, iPhone 6s in 2020?
                            Common at least a Galaxy Note 8 or iPhone X...

                                  OnePlus is also giving 2, I won't count the 3T going from Android 6 to 9, because given the timeline, it should have launched with 7.
                                  Same for the 5T going from Android 7 to Android 10, it should haved launched with Android 8.
