as a developer, that “monopoly” has protected my apps better than open markets like google play. we’ve lost close to 1mil due to piracy on google play, and android piracy is 99.98% of all apps on that os. i hope apple keeps it’s relatively uncracked market.

Imagine that you put all your hardwork into your own company, try to compete with a much bigger company, and your product is obviously better than the other company's. Because they are big, they can and will indulge in anti competitive behaviour, block access to their userbase, drown you in lawsuits, try and buy you out, etc. How would you think such a world would look?

Then I’ll watch as your company gets attacked, sued, taken down by a bunch of Politicians, media ppl and a bunch of nobodies commenting on forums, cause you are now deemed “too successful”, therefore an “evil monopoly”.

Screw all your hard work, efforts and the jobs of your staff over the years lol! Karens’ and backseat drivers for the win!

GeeX, 12 Dec 2020apple should give users ability to sideload apps and unlock... moreYou can side-load apps if you are a developer. And you know the full implication of the code because you can inspect the source code, no malicious url, or actions.

To open a public third party App Store, you are opening security and issues to general consumers.. In the long run hurt the reputation.

Finally someone asking the real questions. Why should Apple to allowed to lock out other App Stores? The answer is they shouldn't. MS can't do it with Windows, and Google don't do it with Android. And iOS devices have enough market share to employ monopolistic practices.

I remember one US network wanting to buy another but it was not allowed to do that before another network came in the market. Their reason for not allowing the sale is market monopoly, although there was another network available in the market but it was not enough.

I swear you do not understand the timeline of the events that took place in the development of anti-virus software and Windows. Viruses and the weakening of the OS have nothing to do with each other. Fraud continues to be a problem, but not regarding security. Security is getting better by the day, even though security breaches are common.
And you are bashing windows for not being tidy??
Do not put the blame for stagnant OS development on the very services that rely on it. Your arguments are straight out irrational

but tbh having market dominance comes with responsibilities.
nobody forces you to buy those products. but that is the point. they don't have to. They have market dominance and the likeliness for consumption of their products/services is anticompetitive.
The problem is not that they have a secure or locked of system, the problem was the tax. And it continues to be a problem for developers like spotify. Your argument of developers like spotify wanting to exploit the Appstore is not valid. They are very willing to pay a fair cut. But as talked about by people as Lewis Hilsenteger: If apple takes a 30% cut and with that finances a direct competitor (like Apple music to spotify) and that competitor does not have to pay the 30% cut, then those are not fair odds.
                                    That is anti competitive
