The apps don't appear magically in your phone, nor does 3rd party store. You have to install then by toggling a switch in settings, and that's something you don't do by mistake. It's my device, that I've paid for. Atmost the manufacturer can void the warranty for using 3rd party stores, and that's what happens in all devices, except the ones made by Apple. ffs it's a phone not a remote for nuclear weapons that you need so many restrictions. Anyone messing with their device knows what he's doing. Those who want to just make calls and watch videos are not going to get harmed.

It needs to be opened up for competitors to play in.

It's same with Android, Google Play store is ~100% in that market. By the very nature that Google keep out competitors by using the GMS. Google need to forced to open up GMS.

Epic, Spotify, Cydia and many others want the iPhone to become like a leaking bucket as the Windows OS is, now that Windows has lost the chance to replicate its pc dominance in mobile and is failing in general. And as it seems, Android is not as a good platform to make as much money as on iOS, because if they could make money there they would not bother moaning so much. So they want to turn iOS into the new Windows OS and to deprive consumers a platform which is tidy and neat. If they manage to do what they wish, it will be impossible to use an iPhone without an antivirus running in the background, because it will not be secured enough to use it without one. A more vulnerable iOS would mean viruses, battery drains, less privacy, more adds, less performance, frequent system resets to fix problems, lots of waste of time plus lots of small developers who would not be able to sell their apps as they do now through the AppStore because their app would be given or shared for free on various third party appstores or though torrents like 100 app downloads for free ( and full with all kinds of viruses). Of course, big and rich companies like Epic will have the means to advertise their apps, to run and maintain glossy websites and to take down illegal distribution of their apps on other stores. And without being controlled by Apple they would have even more profits - the reason why they moan so loudly and not because they care about the consumers. As for the consumers and small app developers will all lose, our iPhone will be a virus mess like Windows.

toukale, 11 Dec 2020Let me say it for those in the back, selling your apps on t... moreHello man. Do you understand the basic human rights?
It is very legitimate to question the taxation of digital goods, especially so if the profit Apple or other companies are making is growing exponentially without them reinvesting in the community/system.

This is highly anticompetitive. However I understand that it is not an easy task to solve.
But taking part in and developing for dominant platforms is something worth a reasonable price, if you want to use their distribution, however you still have the right to do so if you don't choose their distribution. The case would be different if these companies wouldn't DOMINATE THE MARKET. So as this is the case they have a responsibility to give access to competitors.

Android doesn't have this problem. Developers love Android as their efforts and hard work are not handicapped or controlled by a tyrant like Apple.
In recent Q3 results for smartphone shipments, only 11% belonged to Apple.
Majority don't want anything to do with this greedy company.

They let you download stuff from anywhere on internet and install, but it wouldn't install if it wasn't signed by their open sourced authorities. And you could sign your own apps at your own risk to use it anyways. If this isn't Best of all worlds, then what is?
