Shanti Dope, 15 Dec 2020It's because unlike the 5 II, the Premiums and the 1 h... moreEven worse

S20 Ultra = 87h for 1080@120, 97h for 3K@60

5ii = 102h for 1080@120, 110h for 1080@60

Tests done with low brightness and no other apps open.
Now imagine with multitask full, at least 50% brightness, wifi and 5G on, maybe bluetooth and nfc too.
People here also do not seem to know that it also affects standby time, as shown by battery tests.

Anonymous, 15 Dec 2020You can turn it off if you don't want. Also everyone s... moreIt comes with 60Hz by default. I doubt most clients know they can switch to 120Hz. And according to reports, ppl say there is huge difference in battery endurance when 120 is set. I know many users (not just xperia but other brands) that decided to set 60 as they say it is not worth the excess of power used.

Little secret: Those lower resolution modes are just placebo. All pixels are still working. This is why a fake 1080p mode + 120Hz would make 1ii uses much more power than native 1080p@120. In fact, it is seen on s20 series ..

Is it really worth losing 3-4h SoT just to scroll browser and social media faster?

I would like to know why nobody bother asking for this kind of feature in 2016/2017/2018 when phones from Sharp and Razr had it enabled, also ipad pro.
Users of galaxy and chinese phones did not seem annoyed by using 60Hz back them when they had chance to buy those two brands.

Guess the answer is " it is GIMMICK, but becomes MUST HAVE when available on samsung or chinese phone".

Anonymous, 15 Dec 2020You can turn it off if you don't want. Also everyone s... moreIt's because unlike the 5 II, the Premiums and the 1 have native 4K panels, and lowering the resolution won't change the power consumption that a 4K panel drains.
Same story to the Galaxy flagships getting exactly the same level of battery performance on 720p as they do in native 1440p.

Anonymous, 14 Dec 2020The leading companies in the smartphone market think differently. In order to use a touchscreen with your hands you HAVE TO look at the screen there is no way around it, once you are already looking at it it's obvious right there on screen that you have made an input so the tactile feedback makes very little sense unless it's used for Accessibility then it makes a lot of sense.

With touchscreens or flat surfaces there is only basic muscle memory such as the orientation of the sides on a phone it's not like phone with hardware keys where you can memorize the sequence and have tactile orientation before you even input anything.

vrvly, 14 Dec 2020So long, may as well be 0I.Factories start working on the phones after the devices are announced.
So, they need to assemble them, test, insert software, test software, polish software etc ..

If they start before the event, everyone will know everything the same way we all know already at least 80% of what s21 series shall bring , Samsung event is at least 30 days away.

Anonymous, 14 Dec 2020Tokyo, May 24th 2021.. Be there .... So long, may as well be 0I.

Anonymous, 14 Dec 2020No, vibration when you touch or type has zero utility. Tu... moreYes it serves no purpose. Infact it is a huge battery consuming feature.
But people are used to it as it gives them a sorta "physical feedback" that a physical keyboard provides.

Nowadays it doesn't matter but I remember back in the day, I use to turn it off on all phones as a habit to save battery.
