Anonymous, 19 Dec 2020Yes you are right about iOS bottlenecking the power of A14.... moreYou can't expect iOS to be highly customizable. It's a lower tier operating system.
Doesn't have the high level finesse of Android which is required for deep customization.

N... moreYes you are right about iOS bottlenecking the power of A14.
Along with that, iOS looks ugly, bland and boring.
Look at iBoyzz going crazy on the Internet sharing their home screens.
Their newfound yet handicapped ability to customize iOS is keeping their time busy.

Throttling, not at all. Its hasn't had 3 updates for spple to throttling it.
I'd take pure brutal torque Bhp power over long battery. Prople carry mini powerbank with 2000mah to justify the 25% battery drsin than a dlow sluggish snail .

Shanti Dope, 19 Dec 2020It's not that the 888 is bad, but the Apple A series s... moreWhat will the A14 do by being paper champ in GeekBench?
No 960fps super slow motion recording, no split screen multitasking, no fully functional widgets (the ones on iOS 14 are still handicapped compared to 2012 Android phones), no 8k video recording even though the chipset is capable of handling it.
At the end of the day, A13 or A14 and all other A1x chipsets are handicapped by poor co-hardware and iOS itself.
And they have the audacity to call A1x chips the best on market when it can't even do half of its full potential coz of Apple stifling innovation by limiting hardware to take advantage of it.

Anonymous, 18 Dec 2020funny that the a14 scores better in cpu performance and gpu... moreIt's not that the 888 is bad, but the Apple A series silicons are just way ahead of the game.
What's very impressive here is that Qualcomm was able to squeeze out this much level of performance while using CPU cores that's literally half the size of what Apple is using.
For an 8-core version of the A14 Bionic, we can take a look at the Apple M1 for that, and it's truly a powerhouse, but look just how inefficient that is for a mobile processor.
Apple is doing the right thing of limiting their A series lineup to 6 cores, as it delivers more than super powerful enough performance for smartphone tasks to maximize its potential.
Heck, the A14 has thermal throttling issues already even with 5nm, so having 8 cores would just make things even worse.
It's very unlikely that they would be switching to 8 cores on mobile processors soon, unless they'll limit the clockspeed to below 2Ghz.

Anonymous, 18 Dec 2020how can they hold a license for such an aspect/for core sizes?!It was my mistake, sorry. It wasn't really their license, rather Apple was granted the license to create a fully custom SoC from scratch using ARM's reference designs without paying extra money to ARM.
Qualcomm and other chipmakers, meanwhile, still need to pay for the same license to build their own fully custom SoC that also uses ARM's designs, and that simply inhibits them from designing their own one that's as good as Apple's, since it's simply very expensive, and would make Android phones even more expensive than iPhones due to Qualcomm being a third party chipset supplier.

Wily2020, 18 Dec 2020” Androids typically score higher on AnTuTu due to better o... moreIn pretty much every other benchmark, you really cannot compare both either.
On 3DMark, both platforms use different APIs; Vulkan for Android and Metal for iOS.
Possibly GeekBench 5 would be the most reliable benchmark comparison for the two, but that's specifically limited to CPU only.

Mediatek sux, 18 Dec 2020Yes yes, i know all that. I asked you what license is it th... moreReading back, it wasn't exactly a license that give them the privilege, but rather because of the nature of being an ecosystem within their products, in which they can make their CPU cores as big as they want and still gain enough profit from selling products that incorporate their own custom SoCs, so for that I apologize.
Still, the part where there's a license is still true, as Apple is able to freely create a customized SoC, while the others need to pay for the same license to create their own custom ones.
The customized cores on the SD820 are just modified or slightly tweaked versions of ARM's Cortex A7x derivatives, and that one doesn't cost a lot of money to do.

Man Look Every One Who Is Saying that 888 is greater than a14... Don't kid yourself, apple is kicking butt in terms of raw performance, in geek bench atl least, the reason why apple lags in antutu is beacuse in ram and storage department iphone lags behind and ui/ux score also. Iphones are already very powerful and snapdragon would take atleast 2 generations... Plus snapdragon is based on arm's core design and modifies them, but apple is purely themselves because in times of forming arm architecture they were the one of the founding members
