1) the people still using a 3 year old phone doesn't FK care about OS updates or phone performance much
2) the number of people using phones older than 3 years as their main phones chatting in a tech forum is really few. You'll be wondering, what do they actually know about tech if they don't use it or try it.

Something what you don't need or see value doesn't mean it's overpriced. I do lot of photography so i'm ready to pay lot for that little bit better camera. And it's a fact that phone priced under 500e doesn't have the camera i need or want.
But if i wouldn't do photography i would still be perfectly happy with my iPhone X so Yes These days you can do fine with older cheaper phones. Most improvements These days happening in camera section no much else.

Not everybody wants a phone just for texting and phone calling. Some people use their phones for other stuff too, that require bigger display. Of course, I also don't like 6.5"+ displays, but 5.5" is just not enough for me.

Says ... moreI thought the same, until I experienced fast charging, high refresh rates and very good battery life.
Software support is not that important to me now. Even though, some Android manufacturers keep their models up to date too. At least my Realme 6 is like that. And I pay 200EUR for it, now you can get it even cheaper (170EUR new). It doesn't look, feels or works like a 200EUR phone trust me.
Maybe I was just lucky with this model, but this 200EUR phone made me realise how much overpriced phones above 500EUR are. And I have those in the past too.

The ones that do change their phones once per 5 years, don't care about software support anyway. If I asked them on which IOS their phones are, they don't know.
So, that 5 years mark is only on paper. Nobody cares about that in real world.
The only thing good about IOS support compared to Android one (excluding Google), is that all the eligible iphones get the software at the same time. Unlike Android phones who will get the support 3-6 months after Google released it.

No... moreYou forgot Samsung bloatware. For me that is the biggest downsize. They are almost as bad as Xiaomi at this. At least Xiaomi has better prices.
Software wise, imo the only Android phones worth buying now are Realme, One Plus, Sony and Google. Sadly, the last two don't have very good prices on their models. But, if you can get past that, they are good phones, better than Samsung or Xiaomi at least.
LG is somehow the opposite, has good hardware, but poor software.
