AnonD-762416, 16 Jan 2021"Stop advocating against tech you don't like"... moreYou are the one writing non-senses, it is obvious the only reason Samsung ditched the Retina Scanning tech was because they wanted to remove anything from the display but a hole for a camera.
This was to compete against Apple that had ditched thick bezels for the Notch, which they saw as an acceptable display compromise, that's why Samsung started with the Punch Hole.

They only put a ToF scanner on some S10 models as it was an acceptable compromise against Face ID as they also kept the fingerprint scanner, and an upgrade against Iris Scanner, which is so secure that a picture and a contact lens can fool it :
        https://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s8-iris-scanner-tricked-photo-contact-lens/
Face scanning also work that easily, without even having to touch your phone, which in case you just want to check something that doesn't require the display to be touched (like widgets or the last opened app), is handy.
The only reason they did that was because they also use ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which worked less than they hopped for, as the tech should be the best available if it was properly done, but thy failed and has 0 regards for their users anyway.

Between bezels, slider phones, pop up, flip up, disappearing camera (internal pop up Samsung patented), there is a lot of ways to make 3D facial recognition without a notch or a punch hole which are both equally bad.
Apple Face ID also do Iris scanning, not as much as Samsung, but it still does it, and the only reason 3D face recognition implementation with structured light aren't doing at least as much as Samsung is the exact same stupidity thinking as "3D Face recognition and Fingerprint scanner replace each other".

You Apple folks are really fast at making up lies when it comes to other brands while you completely ignore ALL the glaring faults on your own devices. That's the definite constant in this discussion.

AnonD-762416, 16 Jan 2021"Stop advocating against tech you don't like"... moreRetina scanner wasn’t very intuitive, that’s why Samsung got rid of it because people actually didn’t use it. You always had to raise your phone towards your face you had to think using it, which is very bad sign. And still might have failed because you just weren’t in right spot to detect your eyes. Face ID works from very wide angle. It’s actually unrealistic how side of your face iit works from example. You can put your iPhone like 15 inch side from your face and it will unlock. Most of times Face ID have unlocked your phone even before you notice it, it just works naturally without needing to think it. It’s very intuitive to use. Of course now with masks not so much. But normally it works really well and that why it was instant hit and it only got better and better after years.

Ad.it.yeah, 16 Jan 2021Apple can sell a potato and it will be an instant hitTypical silly droidboy response, then why HomePod didn’t sell? Why iPhone and iPad are so popular and yet Macs doesn’t have that same huge success? Or what about Apple TV box? Because people actually buy stuff they see value, they just don’t buy everything what has Apple logo.

Goes on spamming a humongous wall of nonsense.

Samsung did use retina scanning before. It was superior to any safety. They rightly realized real world CONVENIENCE beats false sense of security with unlocking. That's why Samsung uses fingerprint scanning. Because it works as security for the 99% who wants easy and quick access to a screen they are already going to TOUCH.

The biggest advantage with Samsung's solution over Apple's is the obvious visible one. It's invisible. Not a giant eyesore of a NOTCH on the screen you're using.

So, a Samsung user is a realist. They want the best of what they REALLY use all the time on their phone, not a fake sales argument that ends up jarring the already small screen a phone is equipped with.

AnonD-762416, 16 Jan 2021Wash your hands more often? The arguments against fingerpri... moreAnd all those arguments against face recognition are even more stupid, optical underdisplay FPS are a joke, a simple image can fool them as they are only image based.
3D secured face recognition like the iPhones, the Pixel 4/4XL, the Oppo Find X, the Huawei Mate 20/30 Pro, etc is much more secure, in fact it is better than the best capacitive or ultrasonic FPS.

Does it mean we should replace one by the other ?
No, that's a stupid idea, the same is true the other way around, not only there are reasons making facial recognition sometime better and even the only option, but it also is about user choice, some will prefer to use the pattern rather than the fingerprint scanner, does that mean we should yeet the FPS?

Why is it so hard for people to understand that because one tech is good it HAS to replace another one that could perfectly work with it?
What is it with the Smartphone industry that because of all the customers, it has become the most laughable industry in terms of logic and customer choice available.
Imagine if the automotive industry did the same and because someone invented the airbag they ditched the safety belt, or because there is self-driving cars they removed the steering wheel, or because there is cruise control they remove the speedometer...

Stop advocating against a tech many wants and use, and start advocating for diversity, because the day the techs YOU love will be replaced by another one, you'll be part of those crying about it while you could have helped to perhaps prevent that from happening.
And with the very little amount of phones that has real Structured Light (and not ToF gimmick) based 3D face recognition, why are you even complaining?

It isn't because someone fight for 3D face recognition that it will endanger the FPS.
Huawei, who often did the right things in their phones BTW, has both on many of their high-end models, it is totally feasible and if Google wasn't stupid, it would be perfectly supported with all the nice things from using either, both together to reinforce security, only partial face/fingerprint and more.
Complaining about facial recognition is complaining about biometric security which give fewer reasons for brands or Google to do any improvement about it.

Guess what are you doing? The rabbid foaming Apple hater. Do you even read how pathetic you are in every single Apple article?

Despite all the masks arguments, it's the best there is. Most secure and most reliable. Google tried it with that radar thingie, failed majestically on launch even though Apple had it before them and then they just dropped it in their next Pixel phone for god knows what reason instead of making it better. Got to give Apple credit for stubbornly sticking with it and perfecting it. I often compare Apple to Porsche coz of their similar stubbornness, but they often get the things perfected through that.

Is that really so hard to read and understand? How to recognize Apple hater? Just mention anything Apple has and that you prefer it and you'll see floods of Apple haters ridiculing you. I know very well that tale very well... Then Apple will "resell" their fingerprint sensor provided by a asian manufacturer/brand, tell their flock that it's the best, with a magical bus cable built with exotic materials directly from Hogwarts school and all Apple's world will clap with their ears and proclaim to the world the improvement and innovation of Apple in their resold fingerprint sensor.

Again the same history with Apple fans and brand. Nothing new.
