7hs, 20 Jan 2021Thanks to iGreed for brainwashing the consumers LMAO, this is simply market competition, Apple offered a better product while LG was failing to keep up with competition. Why is Samsung thriving if Apple is so good? You're delusional.

    Just some figures....

LG market share in South Korea (their home market) is just under 7% for 2020.
LG market share in the US is around 13% in the US.

They have been trending downward since 2018, becoming less and less relevant.

It would be sad if LG stopped making smartphones, their recent attempts at innovation were really promising. Things like the double screen, Wing, and the upcoming rollable phone bring some fresh air to the smartphone market.

I think that instead of getting rid of their smartphone business, they should improve it. Do a better job updating their phones and improve the software (I was thinking about buying the Velvet with double screen, but I looked up some videos on youtube and the software looked rather glitchy), so that more people are interested in buying them.

        Auf Wiedersehen…

Mistakes done in past 5 years

          1) Too many phones per year. When you are losing money, do not waste R&D on unnecessary devices like those 1GB/16GB + old mediatek phones for american carriers.

          2) if you are losing money, do not invest in expensive devices like flex or rollable, sales may be not enough to recover money used to make them.

          3) best devices are not always available in rich countries, where more ppl can afford having them.

          4) same device with hardware differences for different markets. Not all units of G6 had same DAC.

          5) variants of same phone with many differences like G8 series like G8, G8s, G8x.

          6) downgrades to keep price lower. Removal of QHD and the 52mm camera on V series, also lack of faster storage/usb/ram.

          7) LG used to bring so many new things, then they just became copycat like samsung and xiaomi

I purchased an LG g3 worst phone i ever had was in a cobtinual boot and i can understand why it had a removable battery i went through 3 in notime off LG phones completely.

Always and everywhere the same when MBA people manage things. Growths and profits are their short time interest and that‘s why they first cut R&D and often lay off dedicated and sophisticated people that have more goals and values than money. Than they are wondering why the products lose qualities and can‘t compete anymore, especially in the price race towards the bottom. If MBA people are done they often left nothing than dry desert. In five years there will be maybe only cheap Chinese brands left for Android anymore. And Apple.

I seriously hope they dont pull out, because if they do, that will leave us with less competition.

wow 4.5 million dollars of making the most garbage phones ever
LG is so cheap on their phones but the price is high
good thing Lg is quitting the phone business so they can stop losing money
and focus on other stuff like tvs and stuff
they can improve the OLED and the clear tvs instead focusing on phones

notafanboy, 20 Jan 2021most people don't care about the headphone jack anymore. Thanks to iGreed for brainwashing the consumers

I hope it's not true. LG is one of the biggest contributors to the world of cellphones & smartphones. They have introduced many great concepts throughout the years & they've mostly listened to their fans unlike other companies (keeping the jack, quad-DAC, SD slot, etc)

It's never too late to get back on track while you're still open for business. But once you close shop, that's the end of it. So I hope LG doesn't give up.

This is LG's fault. Selling more than 30 million devices per year, still losing huge money.
Sony sells about 3 million devices per year, no plans to give up.
I doubt Asus and Htc combine for 1 million per year.

RishiGuru, 20 Jan 2021Sad news. Being an LG fan and through and through headph... moreLG failed to address the average consumer. The average consumer doesn't buy a phone just because is LG or Sony or Samsung, it buys it because is cheap and somewhat good for 2-3 years of usage.
LG rely mostly on its name in the last years. Yeah, they made some good phones, but only for some small number of enthusiasts.

For competition purposes is sad news. I mean, if all this companies will exit the mobile division (Sony, HTC, Nokia, Asus), we will be left with Apple, Samsung and Chinese companies.

I still remember getting excited that their smartphone had a removable battery. Alas, it's not enough to attract buyers in a very competitive smartphone market.

If the solution isn't hardworking and fighting against competition, just giving up, then it's a very bad CEO.
The LG mobile division always had a very bad marketing strategy, it just seems like they are lazy and not doing any efforts...

I don't see this happening with them investing a lot into their Explorer Program but if it actually does happen this'll be a huge blow to a lot of LG users. Really like my V60, hopefully they bring its successor to the market before they exit the business.
