Anonymous, 23 Jan 2021Another person only stating what it showing without any ide... more“Going Open RISC-V and run what app?”

Linux Fork Deepin OS for China, the CPC government wants to get rid of Windows in China by 2035.

“Most consumer app is x86-64 (Intel/AMD)”

Yeah but that's changing rapidly, Apple is a catalyst for Change, Apple on ARM and Windows on ARM.
In the near future X86 is relegated to dustbin.

Also China holds X86 License through Zhaoxin CPU XD, so no problem there.

“and when ARM goes to nVidia it also become U.S. tech”

Nope not happening, Never until the world ends lol. There are more chances of cows flying than this happening.

ARM China has clearly stated both They and the CPC Government will Veto the sale, and they are now going to start anti trust case against them lol, so forget about NVIDIa and Jenson's dreams

“And there's actually very few OS runs on RISC-V”

Thats the aim, to port Deepinn OS to Chinese RISC V based processors and ban windows from China, and it's Deepin OS is already up and running in Chinese RISCV boards.

“mostly BSD and you'll need the roll your own Arch - and that just the OS side, not even the app”

Not BSD but Linux fork called Deepin OS and is said to be a kind of national OS and dominating like Windows.

      “All that money sound big”

Yes that's big, you wish US spends that kind of money on technology rather than military and containing Covid lol.

“but when you take in consider what the Chinese have to do - OS for consumer, either a entire software library from fresh or x86/64 emulation”

No problems, they are already designing and reverse engineering Adobe and MS apps for domestic purpose.

“And during this phase, they need to build a store eco which they don't have”

They are already building the ecosystem lol, OS deepin and all apps are compatible bwith X86 Zhiaoxin,ARM V8 and RISC V.

“Hardware - fab, they're FAR behind, and the entire hardware eco - controller, motherboards and RAM/storage which a lot of people overlook”

I agree China is weak when it comes to fan, that's why government has allocated nearly $500 Billions for Producing fabbingg machines completely devoid of US tech, by SMIC.

SMIC will be debuting 7nm DUV in 2023 and 5nm DUV in 2025, anti China crowd does this China is decades behind, they are literally 5 years behind lol.

“Currently on NAND, US. and Samsung owns a good deal of patent and storage which is mostly US”

Oh god, I got bad news for you ;)

      https://www.forbes.com/sites/roslynlayton/2021/01/04/china-aims-to-dominate-flash-memory/?sh=3a9321552fd6

“And if they really want off the US. tech train, there's also the consumer graphics - which is all US. tech.”

The DELUSION is strong with this one,

      https://www.tomshardware.com/news/china-debuts-first-7nm-data-center-gpu-rival-nvidia-amd

The already made 7nm GPU and that's Faster than NVIDIA and slightly slower than AMD in their first attempt. Imagine what they will do in the coming days.

“When they done with both hardware and software, good luck on ironing out the PHY drivers, that at least another two years worth”

That's not your problems, they already own and operate successful tech giants Tencent,NetEase,Changyou et.c plenty of experience than Sinophobic keyboard warriors.

Sure, believe what the american media telling you. Good luck.

Due to Google's search results, I often visit news outlets that I've never even heard of. Clicking on their link takes me directly to the company's website. Had my search not returned their snippets in the results, I likely would have continued to not know who they were. More often than not, this leads to a bookmark for the ones I really like, subsequently leading me to go directly to their website to check out some of the latest stories, bypassing Google altogether.

I've never actively searched for news regarding anything that's going on in Australia. However, due to Google's News tab, if there's something interesting going on there, I'm kept in the loop quite effortlessly.

Does Google deserve advertising revenue for directing millions of people to the webpages of news outlets that would have otherwise gone unnoticed? Absolutely. These news outlets need to generate their own ad revenue via all of the traffic they are receiving because of Google.

If Google decides to pull its search engine out of Australia to send a stern message to anyone else thinking of extortion, so be it. Job well done.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2021Need some advice on accessing map and games without Google ... moreWhat map and games (particularity the games)?? You're blindly follow the trend of anti-large tech corporation without knowing what yourself want.

There's plenty MAP apps that will work with MicroG+UnifiedNlp such as Here, Sygic, OSM to name a few. Provide if you want to go down the MicroG route which is a lot of inconvenient. As for mobile OS - you don't have much choice. It is either Android or iOS. Unless you decide to go Linux with very little mobile phone supporting that or some form of Android "distro" like Nexitbit Robin, Huawei Harmoney uses. But if you have to ask this question, my advice - you should be looking in attempt to do this. It not as easy as people made it out to be.

The ONLY reason Google is getting the smoking gun, is because they are at the forefront. All portal/aggregation site does the same thing: MSN, Yahoo and even the publisher on-line publication does that occasional.

Not saying Google shouldn't be put in check, but people are making this more than it should, and media is put in at proportion so the mass will follow/agree.
