    Things like that with worse processing always put them behind.

      Considering how DxO does business and sells services and products to companies that want to improve their cameras to fit into DxO tests, it's not at all surprising that some of them are "better". Also there was a commentary from Sony about why their Xperia 1 had low rating compared to other flagships. The response was something like "We didn't tune the device to fit into DxO tests."

        hopefully the III will do a lot better.

I personally had Sony phones in the past because I wanted. You gain absolutely nothing by bashing "Sony fan boys (or girls)". I currently use an Iphone and Im considering changing phones. The main issues I have with my iphone are limited memory, unresponsive screen, limited control of the camera, and many other things. all I know is that most reviews are very subjective and many are biased. Regarding the actual post of the article that claims that the Sony xperia 1 ii camera is like the camera of phones of 2 years ago, I believe the objective of the whole experiment is simply to ridiculize the phone and the brand. Unfortunately, Professional photographers have praised the camera of this phone so bashing it is a bad pick. i personally may buy a xperia 1 ii later this year when the price is lower (too expensive right you say, but just to remind you that premium Iphones and Samsungs are similarly priced). At the end, we should celebrate that we have options instead of writing things - because we are all super expert engineers, programmers, designers, photographers that know it all -that show out dislike for a brand. At the end, the end consumer can choose what he or she likes or wants, and to try to influence us there are articles praising products and many more that are written with malice or by pseudo experts that actually confuse personal preferences and likes with what is good.

              Sony's camera power is in the pro camera app I guess they were using the stock basic camera app.

                They lost their credibility years ago.

                        Dxo comparisons have no real value and credibility, to compare and rate the camera of all brands, a camera reference software such as Google camera should be used because the score should belong to a better lens and not to a better programmer, apart from this discussion of DXO protocols For some companies, it has been leaked and they only set the protocol points in the programming to get more points for scoring. To confirm this, it is enough to take two photos with maximum megapixels with A71 and XZ3 and compare them with your eyes. Noise and detail levels were a disaster on the A71, if it scored 13 points higher than the XZ3 in photography, which is a psychedelic lie.

XA1 had camera capabilities to shoot the stars without any crap computational processing. But who cares?!

                              Thats a reality of the Sony fan, expectations high and shouting to every peasant around how Sony is best brand ever, but in reality you have bearly functioning brand offering outdated hardware and software experience for top competitor prices. Nothing will change with Sony, same as with LG, they don't except changing market trends they don't want to reduce prices, pretends they a big boys and it will end up like LG will leave a market soon or will sell business all together, harsh reality for Sony fanboys :)

You can't just assume the default will perform the same as pro in auto. Pls do remember that if it is a $1 product, treat it like it is a $1 product. That is the mentality of Japanese industry.

                                    This is b.s I traded in by S20 and I tell you that this phone is underated, I'm so happy I went back to Sony they phone actually works it's very smooth experience and the photo pro app is amazing, the normal camera app however ain't great but it's good enough for a quick picture
