Comment from DXO - no wonder that the results are not good..... they did not use the photo pro app from sony :)
Hello everyone, we would like to address the primary complaint about this review, which is the fact that we used the default setting. We have to choose one app to test,
not all the phones have pro mode or app, so usually to make it fair we test the default camera app - meaning the one you can open from the lock screen for instance, most of the users will use this one.
This being said we would expect the defaut camera app and the pro in full auto to behave exactly the same! Why would Sony push different tuning or lower performances software in the default camera app?

I am quite sure that they tested the default camera app and not the photo pro application... no wonder that the results are at that level

Didn't you saw every major tech portal talking about their manual mode as advantage? Maybe you should inform yourself before buying a product which is obviously not for you. Is that company fault? No. It's your fault. Next time use Google to find answers before you cash out more than 1000€. I'm not saying Dxo is payed site or Sony is the best phone out there. Just do your work before buying the product. That's all.

Consider, the alternative, though.
The pre-installed camera apps vary greatly in quality, and you'll often (save, perhaps, pixel & Huawei devices) find that you can get "better" results with combinations of app store cameras, various photo editing apps, and multiple shots (which, unless given a standard protocol [at that point you'll then need to keep in mind that it's extremely difficult to create such a protocol that would indeed been be practical & actually allow for the very best from each camera] is very dependent on the shooter).

Kea , 28 Jan 2021Who will buy a full frame camera only using auto mode?You obviously aren't a photogapher. I am, and I can tell you I use mine on full auto at least 60-70% of the time. Sometimes you simply don't care about setting it to a specific shutter speed/aperture/ISO because you know your camera can optimise it on the fly. There are other things to care about, like shot composition and simply getting the shot

Dx0Mark offer their technical advice to manufacturers to advice how to achieve a higher score with their test... So in effect you can buy a good test score. Apple and Samsung have utilised this in the past. So I always take their results with a touch of salt

Didn't we all learn that it's almost impossible to find an objective rating nowadays? Just business, nothing personal. So are we too lazy to believe them, can't we go and see ourselves?
