28 January 2021
Not the best performance from a camera-centric flagship phone.

So average consumer can start app and chose "Auto" and always shot in that mode - because once you chose mode - it always will be on app start.
I have many photos from 1II on g drive and its really good camera (main sensor 24mm).

114 and 102 for photo and video without paying DxO is really good. But zoom is really bad

The Xperia's auto mode needs to be reviewed even if it remains rather good because it offers natural rendering, otherwise the Photo Pro app explodes a lot of the best smartphones in photo but you have to like the photography

In comments on their site they said they used the default photo app, because that's what the "average consumer" would use, which I think is a lame copout.
When I read reviews of cameras, I want to know what the BEST it can do is.
This is why it annoys me when reviewers leave settings on default despite switching a setting to always on or off gets you better results because normal people are drooling idiots apparently who don't do anything on their phones. I've seen reviewers not do tap to focus because it's not what the average person does. So dumb.

Who will buy a full frame camera only using auto mode?

I don't know any photographer who takes DxOMark ratings seriously, so why do phone sites quote them? Just because they are an easy source of clickbait headlines?

I think these days, we search for review & mobile posts just to read the comment section... Cuz they're at times more believable than the post itself. (Lol)

I think this reviewers are a bunch of noobs and paid actors that are meant to downplay the real performance of Xperia 1II.They are easily paid and bribe for the sake of the competitors of Sony.

Anonymous, 28 Jan 2021Sony need to improve in the camera and zoom capabilities. A... moreWhat phone is making 100x zoom while the Xperia is doing 3x? The Galaxy S20 Ultra with their 100x "Space Zoom" from an optical 4x zoom? I love Samsung, but their marketing is misleading and then you got this people who either are fanboys or are too naive to actually do simple research and know what they are talking about. It's even all here on GSMArena... You people shouldn't even be allowed to comment in this forums because you make a disservice to the community. Yes, 3x Zoom on a today flagship is not that special, my Mate 20 Pro has it and is from 2018, but the iPhone 12 Pro Max doesn't even reach that and people rave about their cameras. If zoom is really what you're into, you're not gonna buy an iPhone or even an Xperia, maybe not even the S20 Ultra. You either buy a DSLR really meant for it or you go for the Mi 10 Ultra, P40 Pro or especially the P40 Pro+ and the super recent S21 Ultra that can finally say they have the best zoom in the smartphone market...

Do they still say such stupid things? I am surprised that they are still considered. It makes me laugh a lot. I have the Xperia 1 Mark II since it came out and the camera is of another level. The photo quality of this phone is beyond mobile, it's not for average snapper. The more I learn how to use the manual mode of the built-in Photography Pro app, the more and more improve the photos and I notice that this phone is impressive, if you know how to use it. Dxomark is ridiculous!

dxomark.... hmm i hate them, i used to love them 2-3 years ago but now, just no, something about them is just fishy now, it's very difficult to believe them, when they release new post it has like 2-3 comparisons but they like to give it super high scores, for example, their mate 40 pro + review had like only one comparison, that's it, they say they do 100 or 1000 different tests, okay i give them the benefit of the doubt, but they don't even give at least 3? Interesting. And now, after a few months, i go and check again and voila, magically there are like 15 comparisons, so basically they performed the tests, but their internet was so slow that it took them a few months to upload the comparison photos? Also, the Huawei, Xiaomi and the Apple phones are tested really fast but it takes them ages to do one on the Samsungs and they are a bit low rated as well, i wonder why?

Someone pointed this out over on Ars Technica; this phone should not be viewed as a consumer phone, but as a way of viewing and recording/streaming the high-res video feed from a Sony camera in real-time. In that case, this is a bargain compared to purchasing a comparable 4K display and the associated hardware. It's a case where "professional grade" literally means "If you do not make your living by producing video, this is not for you."
