Myth debunked: Samsung’s 100X zoom doesn’t fake moon photos

30 January 2021
It was believed that the moon photos produced by the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra are faked textures of the moon.

the one who made this blurry picture, is either amateur.. or just wanted to put shame on Sony A7R III, or didn't know to use it, or is just being payed doing it

That moon pics were created to undermine Sony A7R and to elevate S21. There's no way that second image was coming from A7R. Even an entry level SLR with zoom lense took better pic than that second pic.

I don't have a tripod and completely new to this. Bought it for planetary- / astrophotography but can't find a stacking program that takes those big frames...

You just have to look up in how many scandals they have been involved with.

This matter is only for moon enthusiasts ?? 😁

With that said, the comparison between S21U and A7RIII is highly questionable and nobody should take the shown "results" seriously - at the same field of view (let's say at 600mm equivalent, the focal length of the lens used for A7RIII), there's a 26.5 times difference in resolution between those two, so if the former looks "more impressive" then it's either they didn't know how to use the camera or didn't notice that the photo was out of focus and uploaded it on their website without realising it. Sigh.

I don't think any company including Samsung is slapping a moon sample image on the photo taken by a user. In this case, it's highly likely people are just assuming Samsung did this because they were expecting a smartphone camera to produce unusable, garbage quality moon shot but it turned out S21 Ultra is indeed capable of capturing a half-decent looking one that is at least serviceable for a casual SNS sharing. There's no way for people to prove that they are NOT doing it because the moon always shows the same face to us no matter where you live, but the burden of proof is on those who suspect the company, not who defend them. I'm with Samsung on this one.
