Gaze at the Sony Xperia 1 III in this short video that shows the phone spinning 360°

03 February 2021
The exterior of the Xperia 1 II is quite different from other 2021 flagships - 3.5 mm jack, proper stereo speakers, microSD slot and shutter button.

It looks good, besides the periscope it is exactly the same, the only thing I'd like to see is a brighter screen, I dunno why they moved away from their fingerprint sensor, the one they use now y lower quality, I have a 5z premium and the FP still works, I'm using an xperia 1 and the fingerprint is trash

Anonymous, 04 Feb 2021It is 4K. There is no 4K 21:9 with 2160p. It is always c... moreIf I were to TRY to watch a 4K video (>95% are 16:9) on the Xperia 1/1.2 I would NOT be able to. There's not enough pixels. Either a good (40%) portion of the image will not be shown, or the image will be shown by losing pixels (ie Cropping/Letterboxing).

We didn't have this issue with the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, which had a True-4K LCD display. So not only are we losing ~40% pixels, but we're also losing another ~30% detail from the lowered subpixels (PenTile vs RGB). In effect, we've only got ~55% of the detail on the Xperia 1/1.2 compared to the Xperia XZ Premium. Hence, why I think they should stick to OLED, stick to PenTile, stick to 21:9...BUT they should up the resolution a bit higher.

If you move to 5040 x 2160, and yes that isn't made up it is a Resolution Standard, then you can actually see the entire 4K image! No lost portion of letterbox-cropping. Infact, you would have a 30% extra pixels on top, but still reduced sharpness by the PenTile layout.

3000mah, but doesn't bother me, I'd definitely justify thst because it feels 40% faster like Snapdragon 889, 2 years ahead like owning a 2023 phone, i carry a 3000mah powerbank to justify it. It's super zippy fast, the custom Rom kernel has the option too set to extreme, turbo, performance, optimal, power saver.

Kangal, 04 Feb 2021I don't know about that. Year after year, Sharp shows ... moreSharp IGZO are expensive panels compared to Samsung pentile OLED. They are also thicker which is something manufacturers don't want deal with. Pentile OLED has way too many disadvantages compared to benefits when it comes to picture quality but I guess very few people care about that.

now, this phone I am interested in.

Dometalican, 04 Feb 2021TBH, I'd rather have Sharp IGZO Pro OLED. That tech ha... moreI don't know about that. Year after year, Sharp shows off their impressive screen technology but when it comes to products... nothing. Outside of the lab, in real-world conditions Samsung is the clear leader. So I'd rather they take the best of Samsung rather than Sharp, Panasonic, JDi, LG, or BOE.

I really like OLED over LCD as it allows you do scale the resolution up and down without affecting the image. Response times, light bleed, and true blacks are also huge benefits. Just turn off some pixels and you're golden. You can scale 1:1 at 2160p, divide by 1.5 on each axis to get 1440p, or divide by 2 on each axis to step down to 1080p, or divide by 3 on each axis to step down to 720p.

As for the resolution, I'm tired of their "Fake-4K" (3840 x 1644). If you think about it, this is actually a +1440p screen in a ultra-wide ratio. You can't view a True-4K image on it. So they need to bump it up to 5040 x 2160 for it to be both 21:9 AND 4K.

I feel like they could (and would) eventually hit this resolution on such a display. And if they continue to use PenTile (why wouldn't you) then the true subpixel count is closer to 1440p-RGB anyway. I'd probably use it at 720p/30 during static points to save huge battery, step up to 1440p/60 for videos, 4K/30 for clearer text reading, and 1080p/120 for basically everything else.
