Gaze at the Sony Xperia 1 III in this short video that shows the phone spinning 360°

03 February 2021
The exterior of the Xperia 1 II is quite different from other 2021 flagships - 3.5 mm jack, proper stereo speakers, microSD slot and shutter button.

reminds me of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and the Oneplus X.

The new screen from Samsung has true-VRR, and has massive battery life savings (20% ?) which is why it is quite a bit more expensive to manufacture. Hopefully Sony uses this display, then sprinkles their own Bravia magic on it.

They can offer the Xperia One mk.III with these options in the Settings:
      120Hz on 1440p, 1080p (most balanced), 720p
      60Hz on 1440p, 1080p, 720p (lowest battery drain)
"Fake-4K" only on 60Hz (highest battery drain)

This Xperia is shaping up to be AWESOME. But what I'm reeeally looking forward to is the compact version.

Anonymous, 04 Feb 2021Because it doesn't make sense for the periscope to be ... moreNote 20 Ultra : 108MP on top, ultra wide in the middle and periscope is last one.

Main cam of 1ii is the 3rd, but the 1st on 5ii.

c, 03 Feb 2021Hopefully they include a 120hz display, at least a 5x telep... more120Hz can be reserved for the 5 III instead, unless of course Qualcomm allows its SD888 SoC to handle Sony's 4K HDR 120Hz panel, but even that would consume a ridiculously high amount of power that not even a 5000mAh battery could make it through the day.

5x telephoto camera is not a mandatory thing for flagships anyway. The difference in quality of zoom from 1x up to 4.9x is insanely huge. 3x is far more sensible enough right now, and we should just probably wait for a true motorized periscope system instead, where the zoom can be adjusted literally by moving the optical lens.

Are the sensors of the 1 II and 5 II not on top of their line? Well, technically yes, because they don't just make one particular type of sensor as the most advanced, and every sensor that they manufacture will have a trick up its sleeve that makes it worthy of being a top-tier camera sensor, but the ones that they've used on the 1 II and 5 II are definitely some high-level performing sensors from their arsenal. The IMX557 is possibly the fastest smartphone sensor right now in their lineup, which is why only the two phones with that sensor are able to perform the same 20fps AF/AE burst capability as their A9 II from Alpha series.
Such feature wouldn't be possible with a super-high resolution image sensor, and no software enhancement can make up for that. Not even the latest iPhones can do the same thing despite the amount of power from the SoC to handle the task, as the sensor itself really just cannot do it.

Dometalican, 03 Feb 2021What makes you say that? All renders are pointing to that.Because it doesn't make sense for the periscope to be at the very bottom as there is no enough space for the large main sensor to be fitted at the middle without huge gaps between the modules. Top module has to be ultrawide due to viewing implications of being in the middle. What everyone presumes to be the periscope on the bottom is actually the huge main sensor. There is a possibility it has some zoom functionality but me personally thing there is some ND trickery going on there. It might not be any of these two, it could be just the big sensor module.

As for me, I'm just tired of the always black phones. They release just white and black with some other dim dull color... ALWAYS! It's getting redundant and stale.

They should add bright colors. Black can always be made but not ALWAYS OFFICIAL the way they make it. Even leaks should have bright colors. I'M BASICALLY JUST TIRED OF THE BLACKS D.AMN IT.

Hopefully they include a 120hz display, at least a 5x telephoto cam, and they actually include their top of the line sensors, which they never do.

Sony will probably price this at around $1,100 but not include any of those things, maybe the periscope lens. You might as well get an S21 Ultra for $100 more unless you still don't use wireless earbuds and you don't want to pay $50 or 100 extra for double or quadruple the storage.
