21 February 2021
A bit over two years ago 64GB was considered a fine starting point, but now people are aiming at 128GB and higher.

it is inconvenient, if you ask me...
so i always choose a phone that has it...

moving forward also means not removing "features" that are convenient... because in the first place, i am buying "capable" phone for convenience...

The problem is the where all current micro sd memory cards that implemented in the mobile phone are all under UHS-I or so called type-I specification. It is no longer able to provide sufficient performance anymore compared to internal storage such as UFS. I would suggest the manufacturer to move on the micro sd memory card to UHS-II or UHS-III, and that will give the performance a boost. UHS-II or UHS-III has been around in this world quite a long time, but only UHS-I was used in the mobile phone.

128GB is the sweet spot? That's very less considering you can expand because no SD card slot and not even a headphone jack. I am one of those people who miss the headphone jack. This companies removed it so that they can sell their fancy earphones. What a joke

Wait for the cloud to load and download it? Or just go directly to the SD Card.

Again, you don't need SD card doesn't mean others don't.

You don't want to have more choice, fine by me. But I want choices.

Stop pushing your idea onto the others. Thanks!

I feel MicroSD is losing its role in mobile phones off late due to the applications prefering Onboard storage more these days and not showing any option to move the data to MicroSD.

I feel a new version of Nextbit Robin with advanced Cloud storage should come in market for better storage management in future with the sizes of each application going up and phones not able to manage the storage functionality in right way

                              And 1 question:

What MicroSD capacity LG G4 supports? In past gsmarena wrote for example 64GB or 128GB. But now only we see MicroSDXC, so is it Up to 2TB?

I got very frustrated when I found out that all ap... moreI guess Google's decision to prohibit moving apps to external storage is for the good reason of keeping the entire system fast and stable, as sudden corruption or removal of micro SD cards may crash the system of the phone.
But sure enough, when 128GB internal storage becomes the minimum standard, then it would not be a problem at all when it comes to capacity, as there's not even any single game or app that I know that would take up more than 20GB of the phone's storage. Heck, even the phone's Android OS only takes less than 2GB in total.
What can be saved in the micro SD cards are movies and music that are downloadable from Netflix and Spotify, respectively. They don't require the fastest of the fastest speeds, and with the large capacities of micro SD cards, I'm sure they'll be just fine.

Let's just not dream about iPhones having external storages anymore. Apple is already forcing their iCloud storage down our throats, and there's nothing we can do about it now.
What we can do, though, is to use an alternative to micro SD cards, specifically external hard drives. I have a 2TB Seagate Backup Plus, which costs less than a hundred dollars, and I haven't even had it get half-full after transferring files from 2 of my old computers into it.

In short, we're all perfectly fine with expandable storage, and any form of it is always appreciated. There's no point in removing them if they are still working absolutely fine, and I don't want people adopting the same mindset of greedy companies who are courageously removing necessary functions in their new products and then deliberately forcing their users to upgrade to their new but inferior system.

pan dv, 22 Feb 2021apparently, not only in the philippines... there are some t... moreYes, there are still plenty of regions in the world that's not covered by any sort of wireless communication system, so cloud storage is just very useful when living in an urban area.
Even so, when environmental calamities strike, network providers will be forced to shut their systems down in order to prevent damage, or worse is if their equipments also get destroyed by unfortunate phenomena, so it's definitely far from being a perfect alternative solution to micro SD cards, and even if it gets to a perfect level, I'd still greatly use the classic memory cards just because of how reliable and convenient they are to use.

Wouldn't it be the best solution to have both storage systems and use them at the same time so that there will be no problems anymore?
Why should micro SD cards go away when they are still very useful in a lot of areas where cloud storages cannot beat them?
Isn't it better to always have the option for everything?

YUKI93, 22 Feb 2021I definitely can agree 128GB is the new sweet spot for inte... moreAgree that high storage is important.

However not all people would buy a phone just to run Genshin Impact, also assuming this game's future is highly uncertain in mobile platform (it may get pulled from the Play/app store).

For a budget phone 64GB is definitely plenty. Btw eMMC storage needs to be phased out except in entry level phones as they are extremely slow.

I also do hope the flagships including iPhones have the MicroSD support again.

Data caps are still an issue in the developing countries.

Ask me:- I'm in India and we still don't have one decent unlimited 4G or even 3G option. They call it unlimited, but it slows down to a eye watering 64 kbps after a fixed quota... So, cloud can hardly be a success here. Reasonably priced data plans end at 2GB/ day.. above it, we pay hard.
I'd rather use that data for better uses or even better, not use it at all...
And even for images, nothing beats the pinch and zoom convenience.
