It isn't because you don't like, agree or understand what I say that it is dumb.
Example, many would say that about my privacy related comments, yet I give tons of proof and examples showing clearly how serious it is, still people ignore those as if I was wrong and they are right, despite many backed up evidences.

It isn't only about how it mess up the status bar or that many hate to see it, it is also that because of it, we went from smartphone being on the edge of having many sensors, including 3D face recognition, Iris scanners and all that to be as standard as fingerprint scanner, to a single camera and nothing else.

THIS is how phones should be, not expensively butchering the display for only a camera that has poor quality because of the hole constantly shrinking (as if the goal to simply ditch it isn't obvious enough).
3: BS, the BEST I have seen is 2 icons scarified, and ONLY with corner punch holes, the centered one are even worse.
Lets take 5 recently released smartphones, no cheating from me as I literally took the first 5 I find with a corner punch hole using Kimovil (Hole + Release Date newest first + For sale) search :
Redmi Note 9T, it might be THE BEST, it eat 2 slot, almost 3 :

Not only it waste status bar space, but on top of that and to make the user pay for a part of the display he won't use if he hide it for a display more expensive than if it had been left untouched, it is also because of this thing that there are no sensors anymore, ambient light and proximity sensors are now both under the display, making them more expensive and less effective at the same time, no more double camera (Wide + Ultra-Wide for example), no more front floodlight, and even less biometric, and when any of those are still done, it give birth to the absolute horror that is the pill shaped punch hole or double punch hole...
Which, BTW, if the punch hole was so great, just adding a second one shouldn't cause the biggest disgust reaction from almost everybody.
And by the way, those examples I gave are LITERALLY the best case scenario :
Resent/latest smartphone, punch hole in a corner, no double punch holes/pill shaped hole.
Most punch holes waste AT LEAST 3 icon slot, which is actually a lot considering how quickly they can accumulate.
The ONLY, and I insist, the ONLY exception, is the Meizu 17, which from factory combine the battery icon in the status bar with the punch hole, making it virtually the ONLY smartphone with a punch hole that can still display ALL icons as if it wasn't there.
It is clearly visible here :

And even there, because of how restrictive Android is despite being Open Source they clearly missed the opportunity to gain even more space by doing this :

And EVEN if smartphones still had good sensors along with the punch hole, that the "disabled" part was super slim, that it didn't added to the cost, and that the punch hole really only took a single icon slot, this is still NOT an argument to force people to use it for the simple base of "I personally don't mind using it, so everyone should do the same", because in reality, you"ll need to add this "and swallow their personal preferences and accept that while we could perfectly make many various designs, we are stuck with a single option, which is the worst imaginable one".

You don't understand, I am not obsessed with the pop up, I want two things :
1) No stupid butchered display.
2) Front camera privacy.
There are multiple ways to archives it other that the pop up, but it is the one people complain the least about and the most likely to be done because of that.
Otherwise I would be perfectly happy with no front camera at all.
1: No, who are you to tell me what to accept and what I should like?
2: Everyone? It is one of the most hated thing in the smartphone industry, what are you even talking about.
3: Yeah, good for you, in my case I am a person with a high level of consciousness and I don't do much things in "autopilot", meaning I don't let my brain filter out things, sorry to think by myself consciously, but I can't ignore it, and it is beside the point.
The punch hole and the notch are totally stupid, ugly, AND a big waste of space.
If you don't remember, Android use the top part of the display for the Status Bar, which display BOTH Notifications and Status icons, it is one of the most important part of the Android UI.
We live in a world where we have a LOT of apps, just to name a few most people use regularly :
Phone (both missed calls and voice mail icons), text messages (one icon per contact who sent new/unread messages), Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, at least one messaging app (Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Viber, Skype, etc), Snapchat, here are all the MAJOR apps that most people do have, use, and get regular notifications from.
In my case, I currently have notifications from :
Twitter, Reddit, E-Mail, Twitch, Instagram, 1Weather, general store, Bank, and those are ONLY the one I haven't put in "others", and some show multiple notifications, for example I have multiple E-Mail addresses, Reddit, Instagram and Twitch all gave me two notifications.
Here, I made a series of screenshots showing how much the Teardrop Notch (that doesn't take more space than most punch holes) waste notification icons space :

No notch = 8 notification icons + 6 status icons + time with seconds.
Notch = 3 notification icons + 6 status icons + time with seconds.
That's 5 fricking notification icons gone, more than half!
And YES, I DO use the seconds and the battery circle + Percentage before you try to use it as an excuse.
Lets face it, notches and punch holes are NOT compatible with Android.
I don't want to pay for both :
A display bigger than what I use (more expensive) and a display more expensive than if it had no hole/notch, because unlike popular belief, punch holes are hella expensive and notch follow closely, it isn't as simply as cutting a part of the display, there is a lot of changes to make it work, the pop up is in fact less expensive.
The ONLY exception would be how the iPhone notch should have been implemented in the first place, as this early render show it most of the video :

No content accessing it, being used to move the status bar out of the display, many sensors.
OR if Android were to ever implement the ability to display the Status and/or Notifications icons BOTH around the notch and bellow it at once, rather than leaving a big chunk of the display disabled, it could be helpful to allow showing more icons thanks to a double status bar.
The simple fact that there is a feature to disable this horror show how undesired it is.
Give me a phone like the Poco F2 Pro but with a 8Mp minimum Telephoto (like the K30 Pro Zoom) rather than the 2Mp Portrait, and with the same bezel as the Galaxy S8/S9, and I would love to buy it, give me one with no front camera or any solution giving privacy, such as a mechanized camera protector slider, and I'll try to buy it ASAP.
I simply don't want : Punch holes, Notches or Underdisplay camera.
Do you REALLY want a smartphone market where they are ALL the same?
Imagine for a second they start to ALL adopt a feature you really don't want or ditch one you like, you'll probably be one of the first to cry about it.

Besides I feel it very disguising about punch hole , it's like a step below perfect display. My device is resmi k20pro I'm satisfied with pop up cam.

While the missing 3.5mm jack and center punch hole front camera are kind of letdown but i still find this device very promising. Just have to wait and find out if it has any heating issue similar to Mi 11. Maybe buy the K40 only after GSMArena and JerryRigs reviewed them. Got to be patient guys.

Would you never use a phone with no pop up camera?

IMX 686/682 paired with Flagship chip will give better images compared to one paired with mid range chip ISP.
This will good enough at that price range, I guarantee you.

This is the issue, there is such a lack of diversity that asking for a single feature to be once removed/added is almost impossible when really we should be listened upon and have list of features taken into consideration, like stopping the useless 2Mp sensors combo and not removing the 3.5mm Jack for example.
Well, not that much, polls and real life experience tell otherwise, and while the nuisance of notch/hole can be "turned off", the lack of Jack isn't easily fixable, especially when the USB-C dongles are really bad or you want to use your phone in public for a while (during commute) and need both sound and power.
