i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 26 Feb 2021It's not cost cutting, it's an availability issue... moreon spec sheet they looks identical but one minor difference. but in real life test imx 686 turns out better coz it has better better image processing which gives better clarity and details. i've seen samples of both in comparison and there is a very notable difference.

(2) It's not just cost and you know that. A company isn't going to listen to a word someone says if they're asking for every aspect of a phone to be changed. They might if a bunch of people ask for 1 change.
(3) People hate notches and holes way more than the lack of the jack.

Just like market is full of only 6.4-7 inch screens. Cause people have no choice in these matters to get a pop up selfie cam if there are not any and same with the screen size. You either get the large tablet or you wont have anything. Same with all the notches, teardrops and punch holes. It's not like you have a choice in the market.

Redmi is quiet good in this regard as well. One Plus was good with prices until they hit 500USD. Above that it's no go, as it was really buggy Oxygen OS and shit camera they were providing to be honest.

The truth is, the notch should have been an evolution of the bezel, not a replacement, we just took the wrong path.
This early render of the iPhone X (thought to be the iPhone 8 at this time) show how it should have looked like :

The hardware and software difference is extremely tiny, just not allowing the main display up there, but the result is massively different, rather than being a dent on the display, it is a bezel that can show status icons, though it should also have been display on two lines to avoid limiting too much how many can be displayed at once.
Removing the status bar from the main display area allow to gain space for content without requiring to change the body size.
The issue is that it doesn't work on Android, because Android show BOTH Status AND Notifications up there, which is why the notch really quickly shrunk down to become the teardrop notch, and the punch hole is just a naked teardrop notch, people view it differently but it is basically the same thing, well, more expensive in fact.
The pop up was an answer for those who wanted fulldisplay but not the notch, but even though it isn't a necessity as the bezel by itself is fine, it added a very important component, privacy.
Though a bezel with a manual or motorized cover is totally possible, and I would take those over the pop up without any issues.
Sadly though, the manual one mean it is quite not practical for face recognition and wouldn't work for 3D face recognition, and people would complain about the motorized one on a bezel giving it a bad image and ruining it even though they could simply ignore it.
In fact, take the Sony 1 II or 5 II, give it structured light 3D face recognition sensors (like the iPhone/Pixel 4/4 Pro, Oppo Find X/Huawei Mate 30 Pro) and a motorized camera and biometric sensors cover, and it is an instant buy for me, even though I highly prefer underdisplay FPS.

There is no reason other than greed to remove either the 3,5 jack or the sdcard slot.
Is there even a phone which has these necessities and a pop-up selfie cam, other than Zenfone 6 (and that's a different implementation anyway)?

But also that there are some things that HAVE to be done a certain way, read and learn :
*The pop up is disappearing, obviously I push more about it than other things which are still existing like the Bezel, and literally this phone is the successor of a phone that had a pop up.
*For the 3.5mm Jack, I don't even thing I need to talk about it, it shouldn't even have been removed in the first place, there is no diversity in removing it, only restrictions.
*I don't care about 120Hz displays, but many do, it is one of those thing that not having it doesn't give anything to those who doesn't want it over having it and just not using it, which is the main thing about diversity, it isn't about making lot of totally different things, it is about giving as many different options as possible, everything that could have been done not too expensively that isn't is a missing piece of the puzzle for those who would have had the perfect device if it wasn't for this thing.
*There are no excuse to put any sensors bellow 12Mp, certainly not an Ultra-Wide, 12Mp sensors that give good quality pictures and are super cheap are available, 12Mp is the industry standard for a reason.
*Wide + Ultra-Wide + Telephoto is a no brainer, where diversity could make things interesting would be to have phones with only a Wide camera for making it cheap, but the Telephoto is already missing A LOT and the Ultra-Wide is the most requested secondary lens type, and a Telephoto is capable of doing the BEST Portrait and Macro, which mean no need for additional lenses or sensors.
*Wireless charging is practical in a LOT of circumstances, one of those being when the phone is used in a car, the cable(s) in a car are ugly at best and dangerous at worse, also it allow to not have to deal with Micro USB vs USB-C vs Lightning as QI is universal thanksfully.
*SD card slot, that by the way I don't have any use for it at all, it allow the user many things that aren't possible without it, from hot swappable, easy storage extension, easily giving files to someone, etc.
And again, it was literally the list of THE MOST REQUESTED features that are often not available at all, and no smartphone combine all of those, NOT A SINGLE ONE! :

If there was a lot of phones with those features, or just one off, yeah, sure, why not, but it is far from being the case, hence why those are the things that I write the most, because those are the most requested things that are the most rare.
*A feature I often talk about : Ultrasonic FPS are MUCH BETTER in EVERY ASPECT compared to optical ones, we should have switched a while ago, but because people didn't understood that because Samsung implementation was bad it doesn't mean the tech itself is bad we are stuck with optical ones which are less efficient and much less secured.
Where diversity come would be where it is placed, not how it work, as the best type = the better.
So, yes, indeed, I am fighting for diversity, not blind diversity where we have to make every possible combination that can exist, but simply when something is cheap, can be totally ignored and not used without any issues what so ever, there are no reasons to not include it, period.

There is always one idiot who have to repeat something he read online about "moving parts" or "wear" or other BS that real world have proven to not be a problem what so ever, in fact, there isn't any report talking about early wear or even visible wear for two and a half year of pop up existence, meaning it still has many days to live without issues, I wouldn't even be surprised if it is part of the last parts to work when the phone is unusable.
