04 March 2021
This is builds on ISOCELL Plus, which Samsung calls Phase 1. ISOCELL 2.0 is Phase 2 and will allow smaller pixels to perform better.

        You are so pathetic

Anonymous, 04 Mar 2021SONY IMX 800 50 MP 1" inch sensor ....nuff said. Go... moreI mean they won't exactly have to compete with IMX800.. that sensor will be most likely only found inside P50 series which will be very limited in number to begin with, and Isocell GN2 comes pretty close in size if not equally large. The Samsung mobile image sensor has some neat hardware features that current Sony sensors lack too, such as the double conversion gain HDR (or what Samsungs describes as Smart ISO Pro).
I have a very high expectation from P50 Pro's camera, that's for sure. But the half of the reason why their camera is so great is down to very mature image processing enabled by their custom ISP.

DIVE, 04 Mar 2021Is it alright that the article is not the most recent? ... moreNo it's perfectly fine, thanks for telling me this :)
Now that makes me wonder why Samsung decided not to say it outright in this PV - IMO 12% increase in light sensitivity is a pretty big jump if not groundbreaking, and they shouldn't have any reason not to use that number.

Jake420, 04 Mar 2021In techtablets triple threat camera comparison of the ultra... moreYour comment neither agrees with what he said in the video nor my personal impression after seeing the samples he was showing. Not to mention that test is fairly inconsistent (like "I must not have had it on the portrait mode, but I'm certain I did" while looking at one of the camera not blurring the background.. seriously?) and he doesn't zoom into the image except when he's comparing telephoto shots, so it wasn't very a reliable source for comparing the image quality in the first place.

GSMArena comment section is filled with negativity towards Samsung. No matter what they do, they get thrashed even before they materialize the product.
How about just a plain appreciation for their efforts, after all it was just a technology showcase.

they actually better not make the sensor 16-in-1 because 12mp outputs are rather lower detailed than a 50mp output. having it with a 4-in-1 array will be so much better, as it can actually record detailed 8K videos, if the sensor is 16-in-1 then it will be a very very, very useless sensor. it's just like they made another 12mp sensor, just like the hm2 that realme and xiaomi is using right now.

Jake420, 04 Mar 2021In techtablets triple threat camera comparison of the ultra... moreI've seen the comparison video, lots of Mate 40 features are left out.

First, FF video. He doesnt use the normal wide FL, which is on that format stabilizer are enabled, and will be fair with other 2 FL (with wider versatility). He also doesnt mention how good its DR is on that comparison.

Second, FF portrait. He doesnt turn on the 'bokeh' mode into circle, therefore no bokeh appear on Mate.

Third, yes stability & wider FL not the best using UWA, but he doesnt mention that Mate has the biggest sensor & better quality.

Fourth, is he using Night Mode all the time when comparing low lights? (lots of reviewer does). Mate doesnt need to use Night Mode and still beat others.

Finally, all S21 Ultra does are oversharpen things, yet he's saying its the most details.

He maybe good in comparing smartphone camera for amateur users, but not the advance one. A lot of things are left out in his video, making me scratching my head.

If you want to go technical, go to Anandtech.

Knowing Samsung, their 200mp sensors will probably have 16 in 1 binning and produce 12mp images again.

I hope they use this technology in a successor to the hmx where the 108mp is binned to 27mp, only Xiaomi have been making efforts to go beyond 12mp.

Cool tech, but I wish in their video they stated by exactly how much their upcoming Isocell 2.0 sensors will be able to gather more light compared to the existing ones with Isocell Plus technology. They say the new shielding material "significantly" improves light sensitivity, but without the actual % figure their claim doesn't mean a lot.
