AnonD-985481, 05 Mar 2021"Always" Based on what metric? You? 5 people here... moreif someone buys a flagship phone with his own money then, he/she will use a case.no matter how careful you are, that phone is going to drop at home, in garage, at gym or on beach. one of the the main reasons of buying a flagship is using it for more than 3 years due to it's high performance. my both current and previous smartphones have glass backs by the way. if you keep dropping the phone without a case, you need luck to use it stable for 3-4 years. glass is better but, no flagship is available for €700 till now (iphone12 is if you give up telephoto). I doubt no flagships will be released with €700 in 2021 either.

Specifically reliability. I wanted to buy xperia 5 II but no carriers offered it at the time so settled with Samsung. Maybe you have bad luck with Sony devices?

Anonymous, 05 Mar 2021+1I don't think you know all, or the majority of, or even a quarter of the "real" tech people in order to speak for them or any other group and its habits. But you can definitely speak for yourself with authority. That's about it.

HJL2230, 06 Mar 2021I mean, aside from people writing comments at the GSMArena ... moreSales show that "normal" people choose glass over plastic overwhelmingly. That's not by chance. It's the cool factor and your device is considered high end with glass. It's no different from why the majority of "normal" people still choose iPhone over superior Android devices because iPhones are still considered much cooler than Android and they have much higher resale value. Nobody steals Android phones. But people snatch iPhones everyday. Ever read about Samsung stores being raided? No. Apple stores? Yes.
So yes glass matters unless by "normal" people you mean older or retired folk. Of course they couldn't care less about device makeup.

Aadrian , 05 Mar 2021Lower starting price is what people like. I hope they final... moreI mean, aside from people writing comments at the GSMArena website, would normal people really care if their phone is made of glass or plastic? As long as the feel to the material isn't cheap, I see no real downgrade. Plastic might be a better option considering cell receptions and not worrying about your back side of your shattering, as well as the front side. Besides, most people uses their phones inside of a case anyway.
