Soon will be carrying bombs in our pockets. The best battery innovation will be to fit a miniature Tesler micro batteries in a smart phone. Charging times will only be 1 minute. Already we are at 2 batteries in one smartphone. Someone to make it 4 separate batteries then 100 tiny ones. Charging times will be less than 1 minute. You plug your phone and immediately remove fully charged.

This is going beyond ridiculous. Anything above 40-50W is overkill - harmful to environment and just plain consumerism.

Every year there is a faster charger.
Every year there are more haters.
Did 65w charging damage the battery cells?
No, mine is still at 98% capacity even 13 months later.
Did 120w charging phones blow up?
No.
Will 200w charging phones be a problem?
No!
This is real. Just like Tesla 250,000w charging is real.
How can you call yourself a tech enthusiast and then hate on faster charging? It's beyond me...

How I personally view the charging speeds:
5W = too slow in 2021
10W = bit slow but I can live with it
18W = okay but could be better
25W = just as much as I need
anything over 50W = pure overkill and honestly I'd probably just buy a slower charging brick because it's unnecessary fire hazard.

AnonD-834088, 08 Mar 2021Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this fast charging ma... moreIf you mean battery life in terms of day to day use, no, a super fast charge will last as long as a slow charge.
If you mean over long periods of time, say for example after a year (degregation) then that's controversial.
The science shows that heat wears out lithium batteries.
The faster the charge, the more the heat, but not always.
These new batteries aren't the usual kind, they have large separators and graphene layers that allow them to charge at such speeds without getting too hot.
For example, a 2020 Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra at 120w reaches 45c.
A 2017 Razer Phone also reaches 45c at 20w.
So it's not as simple as people may think.
Me? I'll take the 200w charging please. I will have a new phone in 12 months so I don't care if the battery is not as good by that point.

AnonD-834088, 08 Mar 2021Correct me if I'm wrong, but does this fast charging ma... moreNot a myth. but not only do manufacturers not care. but they see it as a benefit. they either get money for a battery replacement or more phone purchases by doing this.
Cooling can mitigate the wear by a good marigin but there's always increased wear
