Chinese OEMs do not care because they know in China there is a huge amount of people that buy new phone every 12 months, even every 8 months.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2021i dont know i have close to 3 years old xiaomi phone what i... moreIf your phone support 18W, you can use a 25, 30, 45, or 100W charger.
But it still acts like a 18W.
Hardware and software are made to allow 18W charging.
              Charging speed does not increase.

You can now fry an egg on the next 200w charging phone.

they are just finding a way to connect the phone to a 230V AC outlet without an adapter!

Maybe half a day less on full charge as i chargle like 2 times a week only. Usually every after 4 days or so when the phone drops under 18% and starts to give me notifications that turn on save mode

battery health is gonna take a big hit

Why do ya'll hate fast charging so much?

                                Heat kills lithium right?

Well let me teach you something.
20w charging back in 2017 would warm the cell up to around 45c, sometimes warmer.
In 2020, Xiaomi managed (on average) 120w charging up to 45c.

This is incredible really! Personally I'd rather 65w charging at below 40c, but these high charging speeds REALLY aren't all that bad.

"Waaaa, fire risk waaaa" No, don't be stupid. Batteries explode from high current when dendrites are formed in the separator which in turn creates a short. These fast charging cells use HUGE separators to avoid this, that's why they tend to be smaller (4500mah rather than 5000mah).

"Waaaa my battery will only last 2 months waaaaa"

I've charged at 65w daily, sometimes multiple times a day for 13 months and my battery is still at 98% capacity. I've tested with an external device. Originally 4500mah and now at 4400mah. I don't let my battery go below 20% or above 80%.

This is getting ridiculous. After a certain point is just a number.
I mean, we are living in the speed era, but it's not like you are wasting your time if you use a 30-65W charger. That translates to 30-60 minutes charging time, depending on the battery. What's wrong with that?
In the last few years, I used 30W chargers (Realme 6 and Poco X3 NFC), 65W charger (One plus 8T), but also 12W-20W chargers (some Samsung, Huawei and iphone models). Now I am using an 18W charger on my Pixel 4a (but I charge it during the night). I think the sweet spot still remains 30W. You get a relatively good charging time and also a good battery life in time.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2021How I personally view the charging speeds: 5W = too slow... more5W is more than enough if you are charging overnight. I usually go with 7.5W-10W, which is fast enough and doesnt kills the battery or generates heat.
Xiaomi is just doing marketing numbers here with those approaches, since 200W and even 65W is overkill for a phone. Even most laptops are on 65W only and they do not use all that power to charge up.

Remember kids, heat means loss of energy and it signals that a system is innefficient.

Xiaomi will produce 5KW wired charger and 500W wireless charger in 2022.
