Anonymous, 10 Mar 2021Second photo has narrower FOV. Be sure in the end, it is ... moreThe barrel distortion on the left sample gives you an illusion that it is capturing wider field of view, but if you take a look at the buildings at the edges of the frame and how much of the sky is being captured you will realise that they both have a comparable FoV. Free form lens is a technology that has already been proven to work great for a mobile phone UWA camera (Mate 40 Pro+'s 14mm equivalent lens is sharper and has significantly less edge distortions than the regular Pro's 18mm lens per FoV.. now let that sink in). As for other examples you listed:

1. Samsung never said S20U has 5x optical zoom officially.
2. Somewhat true, though the situation is pretty similar to OnePlus 7 Pro where they advertised a 2.2x 13MP telephoto camera as a 3x 8MP and everyone made fuss about it despite the fact that they would be no difference in image quality.
3. True.
4. Any source for this (apart from "it kinda looks like upscaled from 4K" narrative)?
5. True.
6. A claim that had never been proven in the end.
7. True.
8. How the hell can you tell that when you're not an insider of those companies?

Hopefully OnePlus 9 series there won't be green tint on your displays this year or black crush & screen banding as we saw in the OnePlus 8 series. That's horrible after paying $1000 for a phone & have green tint. But as usual we'll wait for actual user reviews before deciding to buy if such issues won't surface.

They release scores quickly because they receive the phone for testing before official launch. Exactly how youtubers present unboxing or reviews a few minutes after launch, even if is not available on market.

Second thing is quality of the testing. Mark my words: in this moment there is no one who has this grade of quality regarding photography in phone. NO ONE! Period.
They got the best tools and most advanced system of testing cameras.

Anonymous, 10 Mar 2021Have been using OnePlus phones for work for more than 4 yea... moreI've been using them since 2017 as well. They are very high quality build. I compare them to my wife's iPhones (iPhone 6s, 8, 11 Pro) and they are equally matched in build quality. It's impressive and I didn't see this from the Pixel line (Pixel XL, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3).

Dear OnePlus, you can mind your business until you do not bring back the 3.5mm jack. I'm minding mine.

Is it just me, or does the phone in the official picture on the Twitter have a curved screen? Is that the 9 Pro?

Be sure in the end, it is just software, without option to turn off.
Cellphone makers always lie about many stuff.

                  - Samsung advertises periscope of S20U as 5x (but is 104mm, not 130mm).
                  - 12MP + 70mm Sony is 20MP + 54mm + digital zoom
                  - mi10 8K is 6K upscaled to 8K
                  - nubia gaming phone with SD855 or 855+ that has fake 8K upscaled from 4K
                  - fake super slowmo
                  - moon shots that come from database
                  - brands that cheat on antutu
                  - brands that claim they sell more phones than they actually do

I'd rather have a thicker phone (thick enough to hide cam bump) with maybe 1/1.8" behind 150mm lens than having larger sensor for ultra wide.
To my taste , 24-25mm is very wide already. Let alone 12-17mm.

Anonymous, 10 Mar 2021It is exactly what the ultra wide of other phones do. Others corrected using software, which degrades lens quality & frame cropped (less wide than suggested focal length).

Using by hardware solve those problem.
