22 March 2021
LG was reportedly talking to Vingroup and Volkswagen to offload the ailing mobile division, but negotiations seem to have failed.

LG phones are good, marketing isn't. Walk into a retail store, you see a big display of Samsung phones, another big display of iPhones and a very tiny display of all the other brands around. Stores and retailers play a big role in sales as well, and how eager they want to sell anything other than Samsung or Apple. Salesmen want to sell you a Samsung or iPhone, the other brands don't get any recognition. I have experienced this in several stores, however I know more about phones than the average person so I simply don't fall for that trick.

If this true, we've left finger counts of big OEMs that still holding to the headphone jack on its flagship line, as LG has been the key holder on keeping headphone jack alive in flagships in recent years since 2016. It's either Asus (since with ROG 5), Sony (since with 1 II), or Motorola (since with Edge+) are the OEMs that I'm able to think about. And LG also has been very innovative and standout with their phones since the beginning. LG Wing, LG G5/G8, V10, G Flex even older ones like LG Crystal, LG Prada 1, Optimus Sol/2X/3D. Yeah...

FatShady, 22 Mar 2021no one is going to miss them, selling a midranger at flagsh... morewhy do u want Sony to be next? they don't sell midrange phones for crazy high prices. Xperia Pro cost $2000 because it can do things other phones cant.

Act as a battery bank for ur camera
        have a micro-HDMI port
have a like full frame 4K feed from camera
        have a 4K display
        have multiple shortcut buttons
basically its a professional tool, not for mainstream

(apparently some people don't understand that 😐)
        not saying u dont btw.

unless u mean their super bad sales strategy... then i can agree with u

Non existent marketing, not sending review unit on launch, and questional availability, is the reason for the downfall. No consistence design language, not listening to consumer feedback, and launching phones with random features and not sticking to them, on top of unreasonable prices. It's not just the competion, but the fault of those sitting at top, who have no idea how to run a business.

LG burned cash fast doing those stupid region & carrier devices that had different hardware configurations (there were like 3 different G6 models, and the same for G7 & G8).

Their software updates were bad, and really slow. Still, kind of sad/funny that Xperia & HTC managed to outlive them so far, with Sony even reporting financial gains on mobiles by focusing on Flagships, and HTC, well, they at least are doing solid midranges, which was something LG never managed to do. They either looked really bad, had trash specs, high price or all of them combined.

dbjungle, 22 Mar 2021I have one suggestion before they shut down. Switch to pla... moretheir biggest issue is their prices, not the phones per se, if they weren't such greedy they could've gained some market share but no, they sell decent phones at very high prices.

Yes they have great phones, but sadly no one notices them. good riddance.

                GG LG

no one is going to miss them, selling a midranger at flagship prices.
hopefully sony is next, both can focus on what they are the best at, cam hardware and screens.

nice attempt with LG wing, last hope, gaining temporary attention...

                    i appreciate that

I have one suggestion before they shut down. Switch to plain Android smaller smaller width phones. This part of the market is underserved and they could capitalize on it. Or they can just keep doing what they've been doing and go out of business.

Erin, 22 Mar 2021Samsung cannot be beaten. That fate was sealed in 2010.I dread a world where all there is to choose from is Samsung and Apple - I don't care for either of them.
And without competition the consumer will always be the loser.

No, please don't! This is not the solution LG! We have seen you can make good hardware! You can come with nice ideas, now you need BETTER strategy when it comes to sales! Small Chinese companies can sell their garbage phones(some brands, NOT all), and LG is falling apart?

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2021Just waiting with ,popcorn on hand , the salty LG owners th... moreMy LG V50 had great hardware, the software was utter toss though.
I can't defend LG, years of making a poor pastiche of Samsung's software and then not updating it at all made this inevitable.

I'm not surprised really, selling a company that somehow loses billions every quarter has to be hard.
The names worth nowt too, given how lousy LG's update policy is.
I'll miss their hardware, but their software deserves to die in fire.
