Report: LG considers shutting down mobile division after sale talks fall through

22 March 2021
LG was reportedly talking to Vingroup and Volkswagen to offload the ailing mobile division, but negotiations seem to have failed.

I can't understand that such a big company doesn't care what it releases ,,,, we as ordinary users would make 10 times better design and without some special school ,,,, they started making double phones, double screens ,, ,,, so who needs it? it is neither practical nor useful, then that rotating nonsense phone that also serves no purpose, they just don't follow the market and what people want, they have already rushed from nonsense to nonsense

This is a very depressing news. But sadly, I kinda expected this to happen. I switched to Asus and will be considering the ROG Phone 5, now using ROG Phone 2 from LG G6

Maybe in some regions, the only thing mine had was Amazon one and few LG ones I could remove (5 or 6 of them, so not much)

In all honesty I prefer LG to just kill their mobile division, than sell it to some chinese company that would sell "LG" phones.

I have had LG phones from the G4 to the G7 and never had an issue with any of them
My G7 still works perfectly and has better sound quality than most flagship phones. The LG marketing team is the problem. LG makes great devices but poorly marketed.

ntraghav, 24 Mar 2021Really weird though for a company like LG which has been in... moreNot surprising as they have failed in the marketing dept. The V series outclasses all the others in video functions and sound but I haven't seen a single ad pointing out that for the market. And add to that rumours has it Samsung and Apple pay influencers to talk down other brands.

Anonymous, 23 Mar 2021talking simply out of your senses cause you never owned LG... moreI'd have to agree with you. I've owned v20 V30 V40 G8thinq. The dac is what attracted me to LG from HTC. The hardware is more resilient than any other phone in its class. The LG software is very stable but not efficient enough and too much bloatware. They only offer 3 years of guaranteed updates which if you're luck they will do 2 updates in that 3 year period. Some only get 1 update. If LG allowed officially bootloader unlocks and supported the dev community it wouldn't be an issue. It really is the lack of customer and software support that caused their decent.

Ya know LG if you Want to sell electronics in America maybe you should tap into your roots. What happened to the innovative Zenith Electronics? Zenith gave the world the First subscription television service , First wired TV remote, First wireless TV remote (ultrasonic).

Really weird though for a company like LG which has been into existence more than a decade... Am not sure why LG can't be equally competent when newbies like realme, vivo, oppo, OnePlus are very successful.
You people produce one of the best smartphones and yet fail in majority of areas like UI,Software Updates, RAM and Storage...Every LG user in the planet knows these shortcomings and wats more funny is u people have seen the decline of Nokia and Sony yet you haven't been able to sustain. It's hard to believe you people are unable to understand the customers mind when newbies like Chinese manufacturers are trying to outnumber even samsung on sales... Let me tell u frankly, it's not the mobile division that has to be shutdown, it's the marketing team and a complete rethink on the management is what is needed. If you take realme they are all over the place in any ecommerce, offline, online. Now where is LG? What is your marketing team doing? Are u still trying to sell a brand new LG K42 budget mobile when other Chinese manufacturers are selling an upgraded chipset. If you are planning to become another Nokia. Pls go ahead. During Symbian's existence and Nokia was the king... Samsung was replying in its Bada OS and not even in the race.LG was also same as Samsung. How did you let Samsung win the race and you were nowhere part of the Race... It's all simple. You were never competitive. Ofcourse you produced some very good devices but very people knew about it... Please take the Chinese mobile manufacturers as an example and restructure your mobile division. LG is unique in its own way. Don't let the Brand Die.

Here I thought Sony Mobile would shutdown first before them, guess I was wrong. Gonna miss their q dac flagship phones.

                          I hope not.

Will Alcatel be next? Maybe not a bad idea. I've met a lot of people over the past five years, and not a single Alcatel phone owner.

Samsung is now equal to "slow" and "no update"
the chinese brand especially xiaomi & realme is really kick samsung ass.
I also think if samsung can't compete, let it be.
                                    Do not cry over brand.
We should be grateful that new brand can kick old and "slow" brand so we can have faster innovation.
