It's more of a poor argument defending the REMOVAL of features. Xiaomi hasn't had microSD in forever but I see you defending Samsung, etc for these kinds of things.

Anonymous, 29 Mar 2021Sony Xperia 1 II and Xperia Pro would beg to differXperia Pro is not for the average consumer and the Xperia 1 II is not a good flagship phone. Garbo selfie camera, useless 4K resolution, the phone looks like a TV remote. Not good at all.

Android-Authority, 29 Mar 2021This guy is always writing therotical copy paste posts from... moreIndependently of my experience and formation, which you obviouly don't know, are you seriously defending than a 48MPx quad-bayer sensor is worse than a 48 MPx bayer sensor, just because of the prefix? And that the sensor area varies with the focal length?
You should show some humility before insulting in a public forum.

aquinoe, 29 Mar 2021I'm sorry to say that most of your comments are non-se... moreYou are totally wrong.
1. I said focal length, so I am talking about focal length! The S21 Ultra periscope camera has a focal length of 30.6mm whereas the 11 Ultra only has 22mm according to Xiaomi's presentation. Therefore, the S21 Ultra has a larger focal length, which results in a larger sensor area than the 11 Ultra at a 240mm field of view.
2. No, the total sensor size is constant, but the used sensor area depends on the field of view. At 240mm the Xiaomi 11 Ultra only uses a crop of the sensor. Due to the smaller focal length, the sensor area is smaller than the sensor area of the S21 Ultra at 240mm.
3. That's wrong as well. A 48 megapixel Quad Bayer sensor in 48 megapixel mode doesn't behave like a 48 megapixel Bayer sensor due to the different color filter array. Furthermore, Quad Bayer sensors use analog pixel binning, not digital pixel binning.

The Xiaomi 11 Ultra main camera captures 88% as much light per time as the Vivo X60 Pro Plus. Though, it is possible that the 11 Ultra has a sharper lens.

The focal length is 'a translation' of how much angle you can observe with your sensor. The sensor size... well, it is independent of the focal length. As example you can see here two identical sensors used behind different 'lenses', but obviously they pixel sizes will not increase or decrease depending on after which lens they are situated.
Both S21 and Mi11U are employing bayer mosaic to acquire color. Quad-bayer is just indicating that the pixels are so tiny that before supplying them to users as final image, both Samsung and Xiaomi will reduce the resolution to a fourth, by binning each 4 adjacent noisy pixels into 1 less-noisy pixel. Quad prefix is a matter of software, not hardware. Any modern sensor is using binning, and as well can supply 'full resolution' mostly-garbage images.
