SuuperBaka, 05 Apr 2021Your standard of quality must be extremely low or you are a... moreWell in some cases, better, but in many cases a far better price to quality ratio. My phone is the Xiaomi mi 10T lite 5G. 5G connectivity, 6.67" Fhd+ pretty good quality Ips LCD screen, 120hz refresh rate, 33W fast charging and a big 4820mah battery, SD slot, IR blaster, NFC and 5G and a very solid Snapdragon 750g chipset, one of the best below the Snapdragon 800 series. What more can you ask for for under 250 euros? What have LG, Sony or HTC offered in this segment? Very little if anything. How can they hope to compete? LG have something like the LG stylo 6. That's around the same price, 4G, worse screen, 60hz only in refresh rate, slow charging, smaller battery yet a bigger screen and a mediocre Helio P35. Up to recently they wanted 280 euros. There you go, there's a clear gap in quality and pricing in favour of Xiaomi over lg. They're deluded. Their TVs are amazing and we have three but the smartphone business left them in the dust ages ago.

Not very surprising, even though LG tapping out before Sony is surprising.
I know why they never caught up.

The most popular LG G device is surprisingly the G2. And like its predecessor, the Optimus G, and the G6 and up, G2 didn't have a removable battery. Only the G3, G4, G5, and first two V phones did.

The G2 was a great device though. Put the volume buttons on the back like the G3 and G4 did. I didn't care for no removable battery, no microSD slot, and the G2's glossy, plastic feel that Samsung got crucified for. Surprised it was so popular since lacking those features didn't age well for it.

The LG V20 goes for $130 on eBay. They say new but I doubt it. Most likely refurbished.

They have extended battery cases from 8K to 10K mAh. That's like storing 2 to 3 OEM 3.2K mAh stacked batteries. You want a phone that can last forever? Get a V20. If you mind the size, then G5 but it's battery is considerably worse since it doesn't have extended batteries that big.

With LG Mobile Division now officially dead, does that mean fire sale on their phones? I wouldn't mind getting a Wing for dirt cheap but I know it received such poor reviews..

The one LG phone I wouldn't mind getting is the V30. The V20 had the removable battery and metal back which I prefer, but the V30 is sleeker and actually has a good size. The V30 is 151.7 x 75.4 x 7.3 mm vs the V20 at 159.7 x 78.1 x 7.6 mm. The V30 was also 16g lighter (158g vs 174g). That was a sleek phone back in 2017. The last good one.

I could get a V30 for pretty cheap on OfferUp or eBay. The problem is the sealed battery. I would have to go to UbreakiFix to get it replaced and could be costly just to get the battery. HTC One M8 costs $129.99 just for a battery replacement at UbreakiFix. What's the point of getting LG phones anyway? No more support. All the battery replacements could be liquidated.

If you plan to get an old LG phone, get one with removable battery. This is why G5 remains my favorite over my Pixel 3 and iPhones. I have this peace of mind that I can always buy batteries off eBay. They still sell Nexus One batteries on eBay and that came out 11 years ago. Just stockpile batteries. They'll be good stored for 10 years.

At least LG left the industry on their terms. It wasn't like Palm 10 years ago. They weren't bought out by Google or Microsoft. They didn't go bankrupt.

Because 2011 was the year of Steve Jobs' death but a lot of things happened around that time like the death of Palm and their webOS, Motorola being bought by Google which they were eventually sold to Lenovo 2 years later, and the Microsoft-Nokia merger which eventually led to a Microsoft buying out Nokia thanks to Trojan horse, Stephen Elop.

All of that was 10 years ago. Now we have LG exiting the industry a decade later. Perhaps more to come from other OEMs like Sony. I wouldn't be shocked if Google ends their Pixel line by this year and just stick to software. Google pulling off a Sega. Forget hardware. Sticking to only software and services.

LG G2 gave us KnockOn which is basically double tap to wake. I know they copied Nokia which they were doing on their Symbian and Windows Phones. It was also on the N9. But double tap to wake was new to Android in 2013.

The V20 was the last to have removable battery on a flagship but LG's last great phone was the V30. The V30 was like the 10 was to HTC. That last good phone before the major decline. Then HTC succeeded their 10 with the U11 like LG succeeded their V30 with the V40 ThinQ. Made the names more complicated than it should be.

After Nokia-Microsoft split, Nokia couldn't use it's name to make Smartphones again for some years. They had to create a new company (HMD Global), until some agreements will run out in the near future.
I bet Nokia Corp. will go will come back the Smartphone market the moment the old agreements run out. Currently the HMD Global runs with a limited budget and technical support from the mother company.

It is sad to see LG exit the mobile market but it was looming. LG has had some great idea in their devices, and they were the only manufacturer I can think of that had a dac headphone jack (now asus with their rog phone 5). LGs major problem was their identity. The lG v20 was marketed at music, being their first phone with the ESS 3.5mm jack. But they dropped that marketing plan. Their devices look bland, and you never really seen and commercials spreading word of"LG". I'm big into music so they were one of my favorites, however their marketing simply didn't do them any good.
