Huawei smartphones (Mate-series, P-series,. . .) don't actually have optical image stabilization even on their periscope sensors. Instead, they use a 3D ToF sensor that is used for that purpose and for other things. But in this case of, the "OIS" is present and I can tell it works for any zoom range thanks to their outstanding artificial intelligence (they call AIS to their image stabilization). This stabilization is well done like on traditional OIS. 👏🏻👏🏻
However, smartphones like Mate 40 Pro doesn't have a 3D ToF sensor (only Mate 40 Pro+) so I'm worried about that. Huawei smartphones have been always known to be such pioneers in photography with their absolutely beautiful image processing co-developed with Leica and when they are other brands with new types of stabilization like Apple's tilt-shift or vivo's gimbal, Huawei is going to provide models without any stabilization? That's not great if they want to continue to compete in the mobile market. But, they are masters on the software side so let's see 😅😉
