LG was truly innovating in the industry among other powerful brands. Samsung felt the threat and made sure that LG will not surpass them, same thing did with HTC. Some will say marketing was not strong, maybe it wasn't, but there are lots of things to be considered.

LG G2 deserves a mention, with its very small bezels (for its time) in a relatively small body (most small bezeled phones were larger, then and now), while still having a battery that was 30% larger than that of competing phones at the time.

It also had an optically stabilized camera (not common in those days) that could be triggered one-handed with a button on the back of the device. The screen could be unlocked with a double tap when the phone was lying on its back.

Soon for LG television too. If they follow the same business plan like mobile division..No webos update and no popular apps/support even if it's 1lakh rupee tv. Other side Chinese android TV's are eating the market share at fast track.

For me, LG's Android customizations were an issue. LG X2 had a gorgeous screen and OS, but more recebe launchers and icons were ugly and didn't keep up with the competition in terms of functionality.

              Good Article!
Many more innovations didn't mentioned in the article, multiple FWD cameras, IP68 and Mil Grade, Knock On-Off (Samsung recently adopted too), and many other which are well known to us LG users all these years. I was a big fan of LG flagships, I owned almost all of their devices, but NOW I switched to S20+cause no way to get v60 or other flagship in my country. Great cellphone but Marketing was avery bad, they were more interested to shell their patends rather than protect them. Unavoidable the cellphone business will go to chinese makers in the future, don't be surprised if Summy move out of business in the future too!

beep bop boop, 06 Apr 2021how is the Quad DAC? i have never tried itI've heard it on my G8x... Its the best it can get on a mobile phone. Instruments so clear and spacious, even on your typical $10 Mi wired earphone.
Plus, enough options and tuning like equalizer, pitch and all.
And huge power when you plug in a high impedance earphone or headphone... so its actually compatible with a wider range of earphones.

Tip: Use uncompressed/ FLAC music for best results.

Don't tell me LG's failure is due to updates or bootloop, when Galaxy Note 7 was known to explode... Sad to see how gullible customers are.

I still assert their problem was more of a marketing one... They needed a ace marketing leader! Someone with killer instinct who can redefine aggressive marketing! They should've asserted the control over market, where even brands like Micromax In are making a presence.

                  Anyhow,
Thank you LG... for the G8x that I have right now... And best of luck and Godspeed...

Your actual customers know your value, you're not to be judged by Sammy-Appy fanboys...

                  Sincere thanks & best regards,
Just one of your many customers...

Me and my LG V30 are sad. No replacement from the LG for you, buddy.

I tried to buy the v50 but even online it was virtually impossible in Europe (for the dual sim model). What a pitty - it was the only phone with flat oled display, full dual sim sd, headphone jack, fm-radio and ip68. Cameras were not too great but the quadDac was a nice addition. From my point of view LG needed better distribution and more stability / continuous development (in optimizing all their features like Apple does...)

YUKI93, 06 Apr 2021Couldn't really be any more true. They "claim&quo... moreExactly, take me for example. I am actually not sad to see them go. I am not glad either, I just don’t feel anything about this.
Is true also I never owned an LG phone. I was very close to buy an LG G2 in Milano in a business trip in February 2014, but the guys in FNAC (some store chain in Italy back then) had in stock only Samsung S3. Believe it or not LG phones were harder to acquire than Samsung ones back then, because the demand was greater.
I also liked the G Flex first series, but that’s about when my interest in LG phones stopped. I think it was 2015. Never looked at one of their models ever since.

Kangal, 06 Apr 2021There's another thing people forgot/not mentioned here... moreThat is why the LG G5 still remains the most repairable modern flagship-grade smartphone to this day. When iFixit tore it down, they gave a score of 8/10, which is completely unheard of for flagships even to this day.

The article doesn't mention another first - the v40. First that had 5 cameras. It also highlihts my point - LG has had many firsts, their problem has been getting these phones to the consumers. I remember V40 created a huge buzz, but you could only buy it globally like 4-5 months later. Other manufacturers had already caught up, meaning LG failed to capitalize. Again and again. I've been a fan, and was looking forward to the rollable phone *sigh, but could see them making the same mistakes.

IpsDisplay, 06 Apr 2021I don't understand how hypocritical people can be T... moreCouldn't really be any more true. They "claim" that they are sad to see LG gone, but they never even bother to own one in the first place even when the price has dropped for quite a lot. Heck, some even try to defend their fabled brand despite giving less, more important, hardware feature. That is hypocrisy at its absolute best.
