Thefizzlee, 13 Apr 2021Samsung sensors are crap, got a few friends with galaxy s10... moreAgreed, Samsung sensor's are real shit. Those points that you have mentioned on image quality of Samsung's sensor is utterly true and I can confirm it, as I currently am using a phone that uses Samsung's Isocell HM2 sensor.
Sony is Sony and Sony is the king of Smartphone Sensor.

Almost no one offers RAW support for all 3 (or 4) lenses. Most just offer it for the main lens.
And yes, 3rd party apps are lacking compared to stock.

Third party apps give better results in many cases than stock apps.
All flagships and even mid rangers these days offer RAW support out of the box.
          Sony ain't doing nothing special.

Market share has nothing to do with the quality and technology behind Sony phones. And availability of their (in key to Sony regions) is okay.

"No matter how hard you try" sounds childish at best.

Xperia 10 II was totally overpriced phone and thereby got rejected by the people as Sony has less than 1% marketshare and even worse availability.

Samsung sensors are crap, got a few friends with galaxy s10, 20 and 21 and they take the worst pictures, super fake way to much color and over saturated, they seem to like it but I hate it it's like an automatic filter, besides that the pictures aren't even sharp, I can count the pixels when I zoom in on the original photo, meanwhile my Xperia 5II shoots much more natural looking pictures with alot of detail and more natural looking colors, the pictures look better and give you more room to play with with your own filters, only problem is that while Sony has killer hardware their software isn't that well optimized, which is why an IPhone shoots better pictures with the same hardware as my Xperia, none the less they look great and I'm def not complaining, aslong as it doesn't look like that crap the galaxy shits out I'm happy

Don't need a bulky Dslr and time investment in editing RAW files for good images.

Unless it's professional photography, most people aren't touching those big bulky cameras again.

i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 13 Apr 2021Most important people are too busy to edit images in RAW. ... moreIf you know just a little bit about photography and post processing, it won't take more than a couple of minutes to edit your photo. In return you will get much better photo compared to JPEG from any smartphone.

I don't want to hire anyone for the job either.

Smartphones are a lot better for the average person (as a camera) these days over a Dslr or mirrorless camera. Enthusiasts can stick to their large chunky camera gear.

RAW editing doesn't need much time once you get used to the process. And in return allows for far greater image correct in post processing.

Mark 42, 11 Apr 2021Man better you don't shame yourself. RAW JPEG JPG 3GP ... moreRAW format is available on both phones.

I don't need to sit and edit in RAW for hours to get better image quality, if the Auto mode is doing its job.

Image quality will be judged based on auto mode for smartphones.... Period!!!

RAW JPEG JPG 3GP MP4 M4A MP3 and even PDF is a FORMAT to read your file. More higher the file then more higher software are supported. Which means, you can convert to whatever format as long as it is supported.
(Please note, convert not same as compress).
So, if you want to try, then simply convert the format of your picture that taken in raw format to jpeg format. It will look astonishing

To compare a crap copy-cat with the daddy of the photo sensors, it's just food for chickens! Lame!

i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 08 Apr 2021This isn't a Dslr... Smartphone sensors will be judged... moreUnfortunately, Samsung oversaturates images and pixel has an overly altered look (even google themselves kind of see that the sensor has aged and are upgrading this year, after all software can only go so far). Going back to Samsung, they still haven't fixed color consistency, are way behind Sony in video, S21 Ultra is capped at 30fps for 4K HDR, whereas Xperia 1 II & 5 II (cheaper model) can do 4K 60fps HDR and even better- 4K 120fps HDR slow motion. Processing looks saturated (still not fixed) and whilst it is fine for social media, if you are looking to share photos/ video with friends/ family doesn't look realistic. Apple has a lead on Samsung here, yes the iPhone takes more natural looking video and supports raw across all lenses. With images, as long as you spend a minute or two you can get the same results by altering raw and still retain realistic looking images but you can't remove over-processing properly. I will say Sony is 1-2 years behind in auto-mode, but that is something they are looking to develop, but manual mode can make up the difference to some extent, though it still beats the pixel and oneplus's of this world. Also, Sony takes a different approach, prioritising speed over processing- which means 20fps burst shot and fast AF (60 AF/AE calculations per second). All the same, Sony is still innovating and retaining features such as headphone jack, expandable storage, front facing stereo speakers etc, cameras are just one part of the package.

Competition drives innovation and with LG out of the picture, excluding Chinese manufacturers the only options for flagships are Sony, Samsung, Apple & Google (questionable now as they are in the middle, looking to downgrade to mid rangers instead of flagships, likely to continue in the Pixel 6).

Want I want to see from sony's next sensor is to have a 75-100% coverage focusing points at least 50mp and has a HIGHSPEED readout and can support HIGHSPEED focusing like the IMX557 found on their mark 2s, because when it comes to autofocus the 1 mark 2 is insane and still on the top and nothing can comes close with its autofocusing capabilities.
