Huawei MateBook X Pro 2021 review

11 April 2021
Huawei's bid for a thin-and-light do-it-all machine is stronger than most.

>>> The only issues are the small up and down keys and the lack of any Home, End, Page Up and Page Down buttons, which may be a deal-breaker for some.

Very much agree on that!

Another drawback for me is a combining Insert with F12 -- I need both keys independently!

US is aiming to cut off the R&D Huawei can spend on the development of 5G-related technologies, so naturally they will try to ban anything related to their smartphones to prevent them from selling well. The same cannot be said for the PC segment, hence US couldn't care less about it.

USA is not consistent at all, their only aim was to kill the competition because they couldn't compete anymore. In the laptop space Huawei doesn't have any meaningful market share so they didn't bother.

It's ironic how the main argument against Macs that they were bad value for the performance has reversed and now it's pc's that they are the bad value. This Mate is a good example of bad value. The M1 Macs has made a lot of hardcore pc users to switch to Macs and that's only the start. M1X chip is really around the corner and this time around it will destroy Ryzen chips as well. It's the M1X chip that will make the revolution of M1 to be felt.

What is the price of tis laptop

Anonymous, 12 Apr 2021My MacBook Air, M1 outperforms the Mate by a large margin, ... moreWhile I agree that M1 MBA/MBP have no real competition due to its excellent balance between performance & battery life as well as other specs, Mate is still a decent device to get if you're exclusively looking for a Windows laptop.

Varcor, 12 Apr 2021Not sure this laptop will gain much traction with a price/v... moreThe OS and security updates are provided by Microsoft (since this is a Windows laptop) so it shouldn't be anyone's concern, really. As for the warranty services, I believe Huawei's laptop division has been pretty much unaffected by US bans as their partners already have all the necessary licences to sell the components to Huawei.

Not sure this laptop will gain much traction with a price/value deficit and a genuine concern that Huawei in it's current form may not be around much longer. Whether you'll get software and security updates is an open question as well as warranty repairs or replacement. It has some decent specs but you're rolling the dice, especially when we see their smartphone business is taking a massive nosedive.

[deleted post]You don't have to post the same comment twice just because the old one got deleted. Obviously they got rid of your comment for a reason, mate.

My MacBook Air, M1 outperforms the Mate by a large margin, at least based on the geekbench table seen in the article. It would cost me 600 dollars more to upgrade the RAM to 16GB and the SSD to 1 TB but I am very happy with the base model at 250 GB because it's only 1000 dollars. External SSD's cost very little for 1TB -around 150 dollars. As for the RAM, M1 has the same excellent RAM management as seen on the the iPhone, meaning that the base 8 GB RAM in the Air behaves more like 16 on a traditional chip like intel. In conclusion, the Mate doesn't make any sense, it costs a lot more, it performs a lot less, plus the noise of the fans which is unacceptable in 2021.

I hope to see Intel 12th gen laptops utilizing DDR5 this year.

Ok, I used to like Huawei Laptops, but now Macbook air or a decent gaming laptop just outclass them.
They are kinda expensive and have poor thermals. Also their gpu can barely support their high screen resolutions (judging by last gen)

Good laptop but quite expensive. I'd wait for the Alder Lake refresh next year with 8 cores and better gpu.

Way better than my surface pro and mac book.

My only fault to pick is the webcam (position/quality)

Huawei have been developing other linkable technologies that can be paired across the device range! (might be quite nifty for the gadget fans).

Overall enough proof that not all Chinese made products are a load of guff.
