So what would happen now to those phones powered by TIOMAP chips? and is it true that there will be no more compatible games or apps for those TIOMAP powered smart phones?

TI still makes chips used in cell phones, just because they drop their SOC doesn't mean they are out of the game. They make chips for just about everything, you may not see their products, but you'd certainly miss them if they were gone.

If GNex had a qualcomm or snapdrag processor maybe it would have better battery life, since the gnex was awesome however TI OMAP caused it to score low esp in Quadrant benchmarks.

Mobilemaster, 26 Sep 2012How can you compare a chip maker with mobile phone makers???I agree..Texas Instruments should not try to make the mobiles..I feel they cannot compete with Nokia and also iPhone..They should continue to do what they do best...why should they worry about iphone and nokia and also samsung..

They make very good chips and also very cool calculators for the math problems..

TI's biggest problem was time to market. they were too slow and late with bringing the latest technologies. all the delays killed their business so their customets (like toshiba recently) have abandoned them!
bringing a program in time is essential!

that's why they didnt have enough design wins - and that's why they lost the battle!

AMD should buy the omap division of TI!

AMD needs to be in this market - and the combined forces could succeed! they would supplement each other!

ti goes after the footsteps of marvell and freescale (which was spun-off from motorola).

these two were also in the phone business and exit it, and now their status is still not so good. and now TI joins them.

and who knows what would become with STMicro... my guess is that it is similar, and that they would exit the smartphone/tablet business too. pitty.

I am very pessimistic about the future of all of them.

games on any phone looks like crap. i don't know about others but for me cellphone games are just for passing the time while i'm waiting for something. there is nothing inside it to make even a slight chance against consoles or handheld devices.

But even though TI-83 is a great calculator, I feel that iPhone is acutally better as it acutally smartphone and can do many more things like the 3G, Internet, camera. In fact, even nokia phones have more features like FM radio and bluetooth.

Texas Instuments is good for graphing and maths though.
