That's why they keep showing pictures of their iphones with wallpapers that black out the top of the screen to hide the ugly putrid notch that makes the phone's bezel look grossly asymmetrical. Such incompetent amateurs!

They do not have interest of using on their Pro Gear nor for xperia.
Just a way to milk money out of the other'
    - The way I see it, Sony act like a fuel company. Milk money by giving the best to others, but use weaker one on its own, in order to get bigger profit.

    'Quadbayer are cheaper to make.
And they can sell at higher price.
Crap imx586 was announced for $25 back then'
    - imx586 used in main sensor in 2018 back then, whereas Xperia use crappier sensor on that era. Nowadays imx586 used as telephoto & UWA, which again, superior than today Sony telephoto & UWA.

'Be sure it has quality loss at 300mm, just like all other phones that claim "lossless zoom".
They have done before with the "clear zoom" from Z5'
    - Z5 lossless zoom camera is crap, even on its era, I own it. My current P40 make a great use of QB 50mp sensor, where on 23, 27, 35, 50 up to 70mm by maintaining a great quality & minimal loss in details.

S20 is 45% cheaper than a year ago and the S20 FE (both the 5G and the 4G) is 25% cheaper than 6 months ago.

A regular Bayer sensor cannot.

Sandeep, 14 Apr 2021Sony would never be right with their pricing. Let's wait. Well, what do you want? an Xperia 1 III at the price of Redmi K40 Pro? I mean, Z5 Premium was already costs 700 USD in 2015, and the successors always going north above 700.

Anonymous, 14 Apr 2021does sony have night mode The auto mode automatically chooses long exposure in low light, though I'm not entirely sure if you can choose not to without going into the manual mode.

I think I ended up selling it for $80 or something like that. Nobody want's that autistic iOS nonsense.

compact, 14 Apr 2021Ordered Apple 12 mini right after watching the event.Well, after XZ2 Compact's disastrous sales, compared to its siblings and predecessor (XZ1 Compact), even the bigger $1000 XZ2 Premium, Sony had called its quit making Compact flagships and merged the Compact line in 5 Series. Even Samsung doesn't make the successor to the S10e due to being the lowest of the bunch. They only preserved the form factor but not the underhood in their 2019 Xperia Ace and planned Xperia Ace 2, both are exclusive to Japan, so you shouldn't have expected any Xperia flagship compact at all.

The key point: "For what YOU look for in a phone". In other areas Find X2 Pro and 8 Pro have definitive advantages yet you ignore them.

Shanti Dope, 14 Apr 202150MP with under 10ms readout is impossible without embedded... moreIn that case Sony could've easily embedded the DRAM onto the sensor directly like they had done on IMX400 as well, if they really wanted to. Also since we're talking about a phone camera, the dedicated ISP wouldn't necessarily have to be powerful enough to read out 50MP resolution just as fast as the one inside a1 does. After all, the full res readout would be only used in high res mode/digital zoom and for regular shooting scenario the pixel would be binned which would significantly reduce the ISP workload.

I should've avoided choosing such vague words in my original comment - by "full sensor readout" I meant full sensor AREA readout (hence 12.5MP readout but no crop), not full sensor RESOLUTION readout..my bad.

"Quad Bayer sensors since they don't handle colors as nice as normal bayers when demosaicing"
That's a myth. Before demosacing each group of 4 pixels with the same filter colour will be binned, effectively eliminating any possibility of QB-related artifacts showing up in the final image. Neither colours will be affected at all unless you're using a non-RGB CFA, not to mention that given clever algorithms the amount of details you can extract from a QB 50MP sensor will be equivalent to a regular 50MP sensor.

From the Android side, true that Sony has one of the best resale values. Problem is people usually are not interested in them. So, you need to spend some time until you manage to sell it.
Samsung has bad resale value. All of my Samsung phones I lost 50% of their initial value after 6-12 months of usage. And the phones were in perfect condition with all original accessories and box included.
The worst are the Chinese brands, at least in Europe where I live. Not necessarily of money wise, but of the trust people have in this brands. I was struggling couple of months to sell Realme and Xiaomi models, just because people didn't trust second hand devices from this brands. And they asked me all kind of questions just to be sure the phone is good somehow. Not even the specialized second hand stores didn't want to accept Realme phones (said that they do not sell or accept this brand in their store, I don't know why).
In the end I just end up selling them below market price just to get rid of them, even though they were in perfect condition.
In a way I am glad that this things happened to me. At least I know in my country, people still value brand name and quality.
