Second, Mark II already has autofocus for ultra wide. But I’m not using the ultra wide to take macro shots, so why does this matter anyway? Portrait in photo mode? This should have been available from the start, and is nothing more than a software change that should be available to mark II users too.
I’d much rather have a phone with a proper high quality selfie cam, and with a chassis that doesn’t vibrate to all hell when watching a YouTube video.

I am still with my two xz2 compacts,, I wanted badly the compact 63-650 mm maximum wide form camera, the 5's are 680 mm wide, I never tried to hold it so I am not sure, the xz1 about 710mm were too big to hold with the one hand, more compact phone won't be a flagship. My second complain is the distorted potato face from Sony selfie, the distortion is horrible that I don't take any selfie, that is a big concern with Sony, I would mark it as failed in this category, Sony neglected it and is too bad, selfies are just as important for family and friends photos, Sony is really Bad, sorry guys I am a Sony fan and user but they make me cry, Sony people in the selfie department are not sleeping they are desd

Sony knows that the smartphones are our first if not second wives, smartphones are the best friend of human replacing dogs, there is no life without your personal smartphone, Sony involved in the cameras and hardware developers for the all industry what brings huge cash to the company, they won't be able to do it without their phone xperia testbed, beside Sony may jump to the top three Samsung Apple of non chainese companies after LG left and be their strongest competitor

Pretty good phones imho, things like audio jack or sd card port that are rarely seen in nowadays phones and are pretty useful.
The only disappointment is the missing true compact phone. The 5iii is almost 16cm long what can't be called compact, even though they do. If Sony makes phone with 5iii specs in size below 14cm, they will get a good sales as there is nothing on the market that would compare to it.

Bt maybe i am wrong. If i look back 7 years ago Sony Vaio ended and their notebook series are no more.

- 120hz 4K 8bit+2bit panel?
- Double brightness?
- Auto focus on ultrawide lens?
- Portrait position on Photo pro app?
- Huge battery size increase?
Those are the biggest requests from fans, not your fake useless stuff.

Really lackluster upgrades. Upgraded CPU... and thats about it. The 1 and 5 still have different bezels (straight vs curved), still have the same horrid 8mp front camera that people have been complaining about for 2 years, still has the useless google assistant button (that i'm sure still can't be remapped). Fairly sure its the same dim OLED panels from the last two years too.
I'm glad that Sony is focusing their efforts on just 3 phone models these days (1, 5, 10), but they really need to do more to keep things interesting. And most importantly - LISTEN TO CONSUMER FEEDBACK regarding the main complaints of last years model and address them.

This two preset Telephoto is a great thing, maybe it is the first step toward continuously variable zoom lenses on smartphones!
If properly done, thanks to the periscope ability to deliver crazy room for the lenses compared to their width, it is totally possible to have a single sensor doing everything from Ultra-Wide to Telephoto, with a natural and well optimized Wide preset, and when a bit of additional room, it could also have a deep control over focus distance and depth of field while having a fixed aperture (an internal aperture based on lenses + pinhole can deliver amazing results) to allow for both Portrait and Macro to also be available.
From there, there are solutions to allow a huge sensor to be used.
THIS is the future, haters can hate all they want on continuously variable zoom, but it is by far the BEST solution, mainly when we can't change the lens as DSLR do.
I wish they could also make a variant of the Xperia 1 III or 5 III with ultrasonic underdisplay FPS and an IR Blaster.
