beep bop boop, 19 Apr 2021i still don't get why people keep calling the Axon 20&... moreIt is like, as if for any reasons, photographers insisted on putting an opaque curtain in front of the camera, you can make the curtain specially designed so the camera can see between the strings in the fabric and make constantly more powerful sensors as much as you want, at the end of the day you'll always still look through a curtain and you will never get as good of a view compared to a regular camera without curtain.
The sole concept of underdisplay camera make no senses, and it is a threat for privacy as people will forget the camera is here, and as the saying goes, no security is sometime better than a false sense of security.
Even in 10 years, there will still be a noticeable difference between underdisplay camera and other camera, only the software will help to solve that, but the RAW quality will still be awful and terrible for biometric.
The only "underdisplay camera" that make sense is pop up camera (that are technically stored under the display when not in use) and this Samsung patent :

Trying to see through the display is a waste of time, money, and only come with many issues that other methods bypass while offering excellent results.

ZTE just got the ball rolling and now Samsung and other big OEM's are gonna implement these in their next phones.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2021Under-display fingerprint sensors work on the same concept.... moreNo, it doesn't work at all the same way, on fingerprint scanner your finger is against the display, which mean you don't have to worry about how the pixels are, that's why there isn't the need for any modified display to make optical FPS work.
For any IR sensor, it has imaging involved that basically will gt the same result a regular camera will, and we saw how awful the Axon 20 was (and it is after the software try to fix how bad the RAW image truly is).
Out of all the way you can implement 3D face recognition, underdisplay is the worse.
That's why ultrasonic FPS are MUCH better than optical, trying to see through an opaque surface when you need as much quality as possible is totally stupid, literally it is a thing better for spying than for any ID or real photography uses.
Which fit well the data collecting habits of Google (Android) and smartphone makers BTW.

If the iphone didnt had any notch you couldnt had a orientated design
Is like a car that had same hood on the back
Too much symmetry means no coherency
Yes , the iphone has 3 symmetrical bezels with a top...my samsung has 2 symetrical bezels (side ones), bottom a little bit thicker, and also punch hole...so , yea from design point...iphone has more coherency in design

useless things are everyday thing,those include fingerprint readers,face recognitions,curved and almost bezelles displays and non user removable baterries-i prefer rectaangular display with straigh corners,no more than 5-5,5 inches no notches,holes and so on,android only,missing micro sd slot and headphone jack are out of the question,apparently most brands preferr to sell bricks and pocketable tvs and bunch of useless stuff-smartwatches and wireless headphones-anothes b.s. business

Apple does not reduce the lower ones, it simply increases the ones on the sides as any other brand could do, but it would be a horror to see so much bezel on the sides, but everyone chooses their tastes

That's why Xiaomi and One Plus (and others) have stopped making notchless phones after 2019.... :P
now, they can say: it's the world first notchless phones (oh wait... :D :D )

I like the idea and I've put off buying a new phone while waiting for this tech to take off... but I realize now that I don't want to be beta tester with my daily driver. I'll wait a few generations before buying into this new tech

So ZTE didn't abandon the under display camera, unlike what some people here commented when axon 30 series was launched.
But I'm still disappointed that it will be part of axon 30 and not the ultra version.

Light is emitted from the back of the oled display and gets reflected back onto a sensor at the back of the oled display. Under-display cameras capture light from the back of the oled display. They'll work on increasing the amount of light that passes through the oled until the FaceID sensor can pick up enough IR beams for it to work.

Apple is not symmetrical because they have an enormous 2017 style notch that interrupts the top bezel, the most important one because people are mostly looking at the top of their phones, not the bottom. At least with Android, the bezels are all uninterrupted with the bottom being only 1-2mm bigger, which is by definition a much more symmetrical design. You must not know a thing about industrial design or symmetry if you can't see that.
