MediaTek first to release a 4nm chipset, already has orders from OEMs

19 April 2021
The chip won't come cheap, though.

I never had problems with MTK SoC.
My issue is with their MALI GPU which is way behind than Adreno. They need to do something about that.

As if 8k is gonna be standard in a couple of years on how expensive and unviable they are in common households. 4k is just starting to become standard due to 4k tvs after how many years have become cheaper.

If these 4 nm Mediatek chips are coming out for 80 USD, imagine the price that Qualcomm would upstate the OEMs?, if they already charged almost 100 USD in the 7 nm

No doubt Huawei are using MTKs new 4nm chip in the Mate 50 series.
Chinese vendors are slowly moving away from QC and so are Samsung.
QCs only hope is that Nuvia design turns out to be a real killer and they go up to iPhone level within a generation.

That price makes sense having in mind the production costs. Trimming a nanometer costs TSMC an investment of around 20bln USD. That's why no one else can compete in the field.

$80 a chip. Not worth it. Challenge the Snapdragon 800 series, it should blitz it. As it's not blitzing it, what is wrong here. Will Qualcomm release a 4nm node chip that blitz it fur $30 a chip? Would have been better to design the chip better on achesoer node size.

There are things out there a lot better than silicon, but it might cost you $6000+ a phone, but would be worth the PR, to make everybody else realise they can never say they have the top chip, and they wanted a lot of profit trying to get there, and now the profit has dropped because they can't sell the top chip and people are buying less. Time fur a rethink. If they are going break the bank on top chips, might as well set up a factory that is not silicon, and get the price under $100, and make up sales selling military parts (who may pay $6000 a chip).

SMIRNAS, 20 Apr 2021will it beat Snapdragon 888 and can compete with next year ... moreI don't think it's about straight up overtaking Qualcomm in performance but more about matching while undercutting the competition with a much cheaper price. Of course they would love to boast "most powerful" title, but there's hardly any profit in bragging rights. Just saying "we have 4nm @ 40% of the price" is enough to push units. Smartphone manufactures care more about marketing their devices competitively than making their devices as compatible and stable as possible.
