This new update is terrible because we usually play music in low resolution(144p) and we have to change again if we play next video because it usually shot up to (240p) even if we set in data saver. #Bringback the old setting.

I don't think it is for benefits of people... It too consume more data .. ... If we calculate Most for people send more than a hour .. and many we find difficult to learn this new settings and their videos we go on in higher resolution for many days ... This will be the companies not people...also it we take time to understand that data saver mode is not the actual option to save data .. and again the data will fly unwillingly from our phone... It's not service... Now as we got the habit of using YouTube, we have to accept it's updated... That's the matter 😏🤷🏻♀️

I hate this new change. It is just really annoying to have to click "Advanced" and then pick the resolution. The videos now are automatically capped at 480p or 720p even with a high-speed internet connection.

rizki1, 25 Apr 2021144p is really bad quality, i cant watch it too long.Exactly. You can use 144 in cases where you are not watching it for eg in PiP mode

If it's really for the benefit of people who don't know about resolutions then it's enough to include the new options in settings alone as an alternative to current resolution settings for eg "select default resolution or quality/bandwidth preference". They can additionally add a comment to the actual resolution for eg. "360p (saves data)".
The removal of the old resolution configuration is bad. Especially for technically challenged people whose app setup is done by a technically knowledgeable person selecting the default resolution based on their preference, use cases and budget. Now they don't have control over the quality/bandwidth making it worse for them not better as they claim.
I guess this is done for their server side benefit, so they can stop encoding in all available resolutions and rather encode for specific quality levels.

Such a crappy update. Seems focussed on 5g and broadband. Dont forget we at times need to watch videos like news channels in emergency situations and cant keep up with network speed simply because of congestion.
Best place to check this update is a busy railway station and relying on mobile data alone.

YouTube Vanced has had this for years.
Its such a a shame stock Google apps need so much time to catch up to other third party apps on Android.

I hate that i cannot easily switch to my preferred resolution. There really are content which you wish to watch in 1080p whereas you can choose to watch crappy content in low res. Stupid decision.
