It means you can never use if your storage is full.
Looksmlike vivo x60 does it too.

Budget phones need this feature. I need this feature on my Realme 7i which only have 4GB ram please Realme provide this option

Instead of optimizing things, they are just throwing more memory at the problem. Either using actual RAM or by using virtual RAM. Which is infinitely slower and I'm not quite sure why would one use it. Sure the RAM number will then be huge, but you're essentially reading and writing to NAND storage. You may just run the app again from NAND storage again. I don't think storing its entire memory footprint to NAND would give any sensible performance gain. We used to do the reverse to accelerate NAND writes on crappy eMMC storage phones. eMMC can only write or read at one time. So, small memory cache for writes allowed it to do reads and writes at same time, but writes were pushed to that small RAM cache and written to eMMC NAND at later time. With UFS it's not really needed. That actually made lots of sense and quite big gains. This, not so much.

Perhaps this works similar to ZSWAP. Although in the Linux environment and Android custom ROM scene it seems to have fallen out of favour. I hope it's not just plain old Swap.

KondriX, 30 Apr 2021Another gimmick from phone manufacturers? Why is this even ... moreThis is how innovation works, develop, explore and exhaust almost every road while on that path way you discover new lessons that wouldn't bee seen taking conventional means
Then apply those discoveries, not because this isn't
immediately and unanimously useable doesn't mean it should be scrapped or not worthwhile
This memory fusion might come in handy later on, we just need to get started and keep the momentum

Another gimmick from phone manufacturers? Why is this even needed? Flagships already come with 8+ Gb Ram, which is more than enough.. This would be good for entry phones, but they come with slower r/w memory, so I am not sure if it will benefit from this feature.. Maybe I am wrong.

Bigmeme, 30 Apr 2021Makes sense now that storage speeds are incredibly fastThe fastest UFS 3.1 solid state storage is no slouch, but in terms with bandwith, speed, latency, etc it's simply light years from LPDDR5 rams.

So basically a swap memory feature on Windows and MacOS? It's nice to see phone manufacturers starting to implement it.

This can be done on any phone as long as you have root access.
Create a dummy file on your internal sd, run mkwap & swapon on it & you're good to go.

Xiaomi must just take stock Android, make some minor changes to the interface and that's it. Who tf in their right mind will buy Xialmi flagship smartphone even if it's as good as Samsung from hardware perspective, but with MIUI which is kinda sucks compared to One UI.

Kevinv, 30 Apr 2021You don't have that much trouble with a 6GB (RAM) phon... moreNot necessarily though, custom UI is a make or break when it comes to memory optimization. That is why Google, HMD Nokia, Motorola, and ASUS phones can still run faster despite having less physical RAM value than their rivals because they all use stock UI.

This is exactly like doing Interop unlock on Windows 10 Mobile to increase the virtual memory value. I did that on both my Lumia 830 and Lumia 950 XL by increasing it to more than 1.5GB. Yes, it did sacrifice some internal storage but the performance is now much faster than before with the factory default 256MB value.

Kevinv, 30 Apr 2021You don't have that much trouble with a 6GB (RAM) phon... moreCamera app on Mi Note 10 takes so much RAM that whenever it's opened almast always all the other apps get closed.
