I can't express good enough my disappointment with Xiaomi for their decision to drop Mi9 and Mix3 support. These were not cheap at launch and are not that old and it is very greedy on their side not to continue with their support. SHAME! I have had all Mi flagships from 5 to 9 but will never again.
People are wondering why iPhones have such strong market presence. Well, I have a 7 Plus from 2016 which recently got the newest iOS version!

Anonymous, 06 May 2021This is what comment sections for any Android updates turn ... moreits basically the fault of all these companies that release rebrands of each other, that they literally forgor to put out updates to.

a rebrand of a rebrand, it can't get any update whatsoever because the company is literally ignoring it

security patches are a joke (go ahead fight me), it's better to have a new version of the skin, or the android version itself, because security patches only fixes bugs, and "security" despite stealing your personal name, birthdate and such.

blame it on the companies that release rebrands of rebrands mate, the entire bbk company

Ummm my dad used 2 redmi for 7 years and he still uses one of them it runs android 4.4.4 but with miui 9

Anonymous, 06 May 2021As much as I like Xiaomi and I even like MIUI, I absolutely... moreIt's not unusual if non-flagships get 1 year Android version update and flagships get 2 years Android version updates. It's actually impressive Xiaomi is able to update so many phones, some reaching up to 4 years of updates. Sure, it's not an Android version update but it's still an update. Meanwhile, vivo, Oppo phones are stuck with the software it was developed at that time (I'm not sure about recent ones). I couldn't care much about updates when there's few changes made by Google on new Android versions and sometimes battery life gets worse. My Mi 9T is still running on MIUI 10.3.6, Android 9.

Apple has it easy because they only release 3 or 4 phones per year and they have a massive budget. Samsung only started the 3 years update on phones produced in 2019 and later otherwise 2 years and that was announced few months ago. What both of these companies have in common is that their phones are significantly more expensive than Xiaomi devices. You are paying for the software support not only for the hardware.

Anonymous, 06 May 2021It was their flagship at the time. Xiaomi Mi5.Mi5 got 2 major android updates. don't expect much because the phone is only $300

Bad Sector, 06 May 2021Why won't my Mi 9 get MIUI 13? It was launched on 2019It will. Fake news that it wont.

RealLifePhones, 06 May 2021First of all the software is unpolished so therefore update... moreDont care about newest android. Better report every bug or something, that software can be fluid and optimized. That is more important. I would stay on Android 10 without any update but must be fluid without bugs.

i hope MIUI will have significant improvement on Camera

"When will it be out" and "Will my phone get it" and finally "Why is my phone not getting it". It's one of the most annoying things about Android and it's so common across pretty much all vendors using Android it has basically become a problem of Android itself.

Problem with Xiaomi is that they produce too many similar but different smartphones. Company that has 20 active smartphone models per year is hard to be good in quality in every aspect and to have good updates for all modes (+ support throughout years)...
When you look to Apple, they have about 3-5 active models every year, that means 20 in 4 years, which makes it a lot easier to make better support and also it makes company work harder so all the models are perfect :)

notafanboy, 06 May 2021Who cares? Does your Xiaomi smartphone still work? Yes. So ... moreFirst of all the software is unpolished so therefore updates are needed and second I care because I like to have the newest features and therefore buy flagships instead of midrangers and so do a lot of other people. Why can't accept any criticism of your favorite brand? When Samsung used to release updates in march and people flamed them to death and when Xiaomi takes until July it's okay now?

As much as I like Xiaomi and I even like MIUI, I absolutely hate it how they support their devices. Especially how short their support is and how they prefer to hide major Android versions behind MIUI versions and how they keep that separated among devices. You'll often have two devices that get MIUI 13, but one will actually run Android 9 underneath and another one will have Android 11. That really annoyed me so much when I had Xiaomi. Sure you get some extra features, but it's not it when you know the stuff underneath is still old.

And because of this only phones I'll probably ever consider are iPhones because they have none of this nonsense or Samsung because they have 3 years of updates and 1 year of security updates. Which is far more than any other Android maker offers. Or at worse, I'll buy something "disposable" (cheap) and not give a damn if it doesn't get updates coz I'll just buy new one. But I don't really like this idea much.

It's May 2021 and the Mi 9/9T are still on Android 10 outside of China. So if they get MIUI13 in July that's 6 months later than Samsung with the S10/Note10 range. And with the support for these phones even more decreasing I won't buy a Xiaomi again. 4 years of great support against 2 poor years isn't even a comparison
